Liverpool Football Club - Games

Postby Entourage » Fri Feb 15, 2013 4:15 pm

Jesus Christ i've seen some over reacting in my time supporting the Reds but that post above me takes some beating.

A week ago everyone was saying how well this squad of players looks, we had gone away to Arsenal and City and scored 4 goals and outplayed both teams, all be it we only drew both games but the signs were good. A week later we have this? The post above me has stated "The best LFC can hope for is to stay in P/League for next coming seasons", really?! That is incredible and incredible how people can change their views in a week.

Don't get me wrong the two performances this week have been poor, we should of killed both games off by the time WBA and Zenit scored their first goals. Yeah some players should take long hard looks at themselves for some of their performances this week but a week ago they were the best thing since sliced bread? Do their two performances this week make them poor/average players? No.

I just don't see how people can go from one extreme to another in such a small period of time, there was a thread on here about 4th spot and now people are saying we are this, that and the other.

We win on Sunday and next weekend and results go in favour of us I can guarantee people and their views will change, that's Football. Glen Johnson plays well, Agger keeps a clean sheet, Borini scores, Sterling beats men and puts quality in, Allen plays the ball forward, Enrique doesn't let his man walk past him and Reina doesn't have a moment of madness, then you will love all these players again and your views on them being average will change. More importantly your views on Rodgers will change as well, he will have got these players out of their dips in form and got them back playing to their potential and he will be the Manager again.

How funny things can change in a week, eh?

2-0 down and he brings on Lucas. We have to score at least 2 at home

First time ive read this forum since christmas, and its so good to see our supporters showing there worth.

Actually, f*ck it. Ive had enough. Im going to give it you straight.

Our supporters SUCK.

In the past, our fathers, our fathers fathers have built a reputation for being the best supporters. Why? Because they had patience, they appreciated the little things, hard work being one. Luck being another. Whenever Liverpool supporters were mentioned on TV, the Radio or anywhere, we were always acknowledged as being the most knowledgable fans in the game. Its been a long time since I last heard that. I wonder why that is?

Probably because today we have supporters calling our own manager a spiv. We have supporters who fail to take any good from any game played today unless we win, and even then, that praise is minimal. At every opportunity today that our supporters get they insult, berate and generally curse this clubs heroes.

Take Carragher. When he announced his retirement, how many so called supporters hurrayed that decision? I would bet my life it was a high percentage, simply because we have so many shallow supporters.

They want the club to succeed but they dont want to be made to look like fools. They want FSG to throw money around, generally they want us to become like Man City, or Chelsea. They want us to be successful but they dont want to suffer the defeats, they want us to go straight to the top in the easiest way possible.

Our ancestors supported this club on the ethic of hard work. Players like Kenny Dalglish, Emlyn Hughes epitomised everything good about the ethics of Liverpool Football Club. Look at todays club, several of our players are not good enough, but I never thought I would think the players are above our supporters. They are.

Very few supporters today look out for the club, very few acknowledge the effort, but a hell of a lot are always there, more than willing to kick the boot into the very people who have given us a lot of pleasure.

Put simply, I used to enjoy conversing with our supporters, now, you just make me sick. You are petty, shallow, and sum up everything that is wrong with the club.
i echo every word.

Replying to these shameful supporters is exhausting.

Kharhaz - most of the fkrs on this forum are not a true representation of the average Liverpool supporter. If they were the
ground would be fkg empty !!

lots of talk in the echo about cranking up the atmosphere and turning thursday into one of those special european nights so i hope anyone going to the second leg is well up for this (i`m not going  ).
if we have any chance of overturning a 2 goal defecit the crowd are going to have to do their part and turn anfield into a cauldron of noise.
enrique`s calling this the biggest european game he`s ever played in and say`s the pressure is all on the liverpool defence, he reckons our front men will score the goals it just a question of wether he and the rest of our back 5 can keep zenit out.
hopefully anfield is going to sound like this around half nine on thursday.....

I can't wait for Thursday, feels like for ever we've had a meaningful European game. I know it's not the Champions League knockout game that everyone craves but I'm going to take what I can at the minute. Hope everyone else going to the ground feels the same.

We need a goal in the first 15!

The ball is round and anything can happen. But with a 2-0 deficit to make up for, this is not like the 1-0 deficit to St.Ettienne 36 yrs ago, I for one am not optimistic we can get through.

Good for you.

I am optimistic.

2-0 is not easy but Liverpool's history is regaled in great European nights and success against the odds.

Come on you REDS!!

In a way bet Rodgers is going to enjoy this.

Turn over a 2-0 deficit and Rodgers will ensure this becomes and 'great' European night, under his management.

I think this time around it feels like cliche Liverpool, rather than genuine Liverpool.

we need to aim to score 4 really.

Even if we got to 3 - 0 a goal for them would put them through.

what you are forgetting though mate is that although keegan scored early on to level the tie up st. ettiene scored in the second half themselves leaving us the uphill task of having to score 2 goals in half an hour against a team generally regarded as the best side in europe.
st ettiene were the beaten finalists from the previous year and were widely tipped to become the next `ajax` or `bayern munich` (teams that dominated the euopean cup in the 70`s).
tonight we have got 90 minutes to score 2 goals against a decent side, back in 77 those hero`s in red had half an hour to score 2 against the best, thats why the 16th april 1977 is one of the greatest nights in our history and thats why davey fairclough`s winner, with just 6 minutes left on the clock, is one of the greatest goals in our history.
hopefully the lads tonight can add another footnote to our great history.

in 77 there was 5,000 locked out outside the ground, it was a similar story against inter milan in 65 as well, back then though it was first come first served and a lot of fella`s struggled to get home from work and then get to the ground in time.
midweek games used to start at 7.30 back in the day and for big european encounters etc the gates would sometimes be locked an hour before kick off so realistically if you wanted to get in you`d have to start queuing about half five, that was asking a lot if you lived in the south end or over the water especially when you consider that back then most fella`s couldnt afford cars.
great days though!
hopefully tomorrow the fans listen to gerrard`s rallying cry and start cranking up the atmosphere way before kick off, i just hope the all this talk of creating a cauldron of noise doesnt end up a damp squib. the atmosphere at anfield these days is awful, if a european tie under floodlights where we need to overturn a 2-0 goal defecit doesnt get the crowd rocking nothing will.

i`d go with this line up -

                                          reina

        johnson         carragher       agger        enrique

                             gerrard        lucas

                                       hendo

               downing             suarez          sterling/assaidi

i wouldnt do what rodgers did against west brom (i.e bring in shelvey and totally disrupt the formation).
i would have liked to have seen borini brought in as a `like for like` replacement for sturridge mainly to cause as little disruption to the shape of the side as possible but as he is injured i`d just toss a coin between assaidi and sterling.
i know rodgers wouldnt do this but if it got down to the last 10 minutes and we were still chasing the game purely as a desperation measure i`d bring coates off the bench and throw him up front, i know he`s a center half but he`s a threat in the opposition box as he showed against everton when he set up luis `winner`. i`d rather try everything and throw the f##king kitchen sink at them than let the game fizzle out like we did in the last 10 minutes against west brom. that attempted `comeback` was pathetic.

We need 11 battlers tommorow night. 11 men who are willing to roll their sleeves up and be ready to fight. 11 players who will give their all for 90 minutes and maybe more.

If we get an early goal ill be very confident of going through.

Henderson must return the guy is an engine and will chase everything for 90 minutes.

This night is made for a Jamie Carragher 90th minute goal to win it for us
