Liverpool Football Club - Games

Great win and another clean sheet, despite the makeshift back 4 of Milner and Lovren.

Pressure is on Man City now to get a result tomorrow, otherwise we start to pull away  :buttrock

Good stuff. There's no way we'd have won that in the last few seasons...different mentality altogether. Losing is simply not an option. We seem to have learnt to break down the smaller teams - that's two in a week!  :rasp

Thought the keeper played well, especially first half and if Roy Evans and Brendan Rodgers would have had someone like Van Dyke at their disposal we'd probably be sitting on about 23 titles now instead of 18.
As Jurgen said the weather was awful, the pitch was sticky so passes were often underhit, Wolves were in good form but we dug out the win.
After witnessing so many false dawns over the years I hate to say this but title wins are built on games like that. A lot of neutrals thought we might drop points there tonight.

Top of the table for Christmas and still remain unbeaten  :buttrock

Thought Allison was vital in the first half with 2 or 3 crucial saves. It could have been a different game altogether had they taken the lead. It was a tricky fixture and they play a good style but just lacked the quality to make the most of it. The weather didn't help matters but overall we were full value for the 3 points.

Can't wait for Newcastle.

That tactic of their's to constantly switch play with long crossfield balls played havoc with our pressing game. As Jurgen said it was tough for us to apply pressure because once 4 or 5 of our players congregated in one area they would immediately knock it long and leave them high and dry. Our players had to work their @rses off to get back into position which to be fair they did do all game.

Great three points, the confidence builds.... however We’re still wasteful in front of goal, should have put the game comfortably to bed by HT. Merry Christmas all!

Keita needs to toughen up abit he gets knocked off of the ball all the time. He needs to take a page out of Valencia's book at United.

I was nervous when we brought Lallana on as he's been on the pitch in every loss and bad performance this year.

But overall it was another great result especially with the bad conditions.

Grit and determination are as important as skill and ability. Positive team spirit is also key. Luck is also something not to be ignored. Slippy conditions and a deflection cause Alison to spill the ball and yes we were lucky it didn’t go to a Wolves player and end up in the back of the net. We had a couple of really sloppy sideways passes (Keita’s probably worst) that put Wolves in on goal and if it hadn’t been for the phenomenal brilliance of Virgil we could have been in real trouble. Lovren as usual made dangerous mistakes.

Excellent team performance. Superb stand out performances by Salah and Virgil made the difference against tricky opposition on a filthy night. Fabinho’s assist was a touch of brilliance. Mo’s was even better. Probably Henderson’s best game as player and captain for quite some time. Keita was desperately disappointing and I was surprised he was replaced with Lallana rather than Shaq. After Lallana’s first brilliant touch he did little of note.

Nearly halfway through the season and we are top of the league at Christmas. So many factors have contributed to this achievement. Maximum credit has to go to Alison and our defence. Stopping teams from scoring has been the biggest difference. Seven goals conceded in 18 games and we have played all the contenders and its stats like that, that win titles.

For the first time in decades we have the team balance right and make no mistake now have an exceptional chance to win the league.

If we can stay one step ahead of City then the match up in New Year will present opportunity to put a massive hole in their ship by winning at the Etihad.

Maybe a new face in January too, an out and out goalscorer would really boost our chances further.

With City's loss to Palace and Chelsea's loss to Leicester, this is a Merry Liverbird Christmas indeed

I supposed asking for Cardiff to do a job tonight is not too much to ask?  :eyebrow
