Liverpool vs Chelsea 20:00 ko

Liverpool Football Club - Games

Postby redshade » Wed Jan 31, 2024 11:27 am

TEAM NEWS
Alexis Mac Allister is fit to play despite missing Liverpool's FA Cup win against Norwich as a precaution.

This game comes too soon for Thiago Alcantara, who has resumed training following a long-term hip issue.

Mohamed Salah, Kostas Tsimikas, Joel Matip, Stefan Bajcetic and Wataru Endo also remain unavailable.

Chelsea defender Levi Colwill is ruled out by a minor injury sustained whilst warming up before Friday's FA Cup game against Aston Villa.

Christopher Nkunku and Malo Gusto are back in contention, while head coach Mauricio Pochettino has said Nicolas Jackson could be involved if he returns in time following Senegal's Africa Cup of Nations elimination.

-----------------------------------

Each of the last seven meetings between Liverpool and Chelsea in all competitions has finished level. including two domestic cup finals in 2022, both subsequently won by the Reds on penalties. It is the longest run of consecutive draws between two top-flight clubs in English football history.

-------------------------------

These lot are inconsistent but anyone feel this has a draw written all over it. Hope I'm wrong, we need minimum 4 points off chavs and Arsenal.

With all the shenanigans going on, we still need the lads to focus on the present. Creeping into the business end so no screw ups.

This won't be an easy game at all, I think Chelsea's frustration at how shi. te they've been this season will come out and they'll really test us. Just win...

If we plan on finishing above City I genuinely think we are going to need to win the next 2 games. Big ask i know but finishing above the likes of De Bruyne, Harlaand et al is a big ask.
If we get dragged back into the chasing pack particularly with this Jurgen thing  hanging over us I just think it might be a bit much for our players to deal with. City are formidable front runners as well , very very difficult to overhaul once they get their noses in front so I think our best bet is to stay ahead of the pack and to do that we’ve just got to keep on winning. I fully expect them to go on a run of 14 to 15 wins, we’ve got to do the same

Team to play Chelsea: Alisson, Bradley, Konate, Van Dijk, Gomez, Jones, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, Jota, Nunez, Diaz

Excellent looking XI ..and it's the first PL game since Klopp's announcement- have at it Redmen- The PL would be the ultimate leaving gift as far as I'm concerned.

Subs: Kelleher, Gakpo, Elliott, Robertson, Alexander-Arnold, Gravenberch, Clark, McConnell, Quansah

We've had a few worse benches than tonight's in years gone by :)

Why the hell was Nunes taking a penalty for f*ck sake, the least level headed player we have. Unbelievable decision to have him on penalty duty.

I would have thought it would be Jota, but he was off the pitch
