Jürgen Klopp provides squad update ahead of Leicester trip
Thiago Alcantara, Fabinho, Curtis Jones and Virgil van Dijk are set to be available for Liverpool’s clash with Leicester City.
Jürgen Klopp confirmed on Monday that the quartet have returned to training following the end of their isolation periods due to positive COVID-19 tests.
Meanwhile, the boss also reported no new fitness concerns ahead of Tuesday’s trip to King Power Stadium.
“Yeah, the boys who had to isolate, or had COVID, are back,” Klopp said.
“That means Fab, Virgil, Curtis and Thiago. Thiago was the latest, he came back and trained yesterday for the first time with the team.
“We have one young player who is now isolating and two staff. It’s really tricky, every morning when you come in it’s a little bit like a lottery. You hope it’s all fine and then one case… that’s the situation, but apart from that we are fine.”
Klopp has said in the past that when deciding on a lineup for a game, he considers the game itself primarily, but also the last game and the next game. With there being 5 recovery days since we played Leicester in the League Cup, and then 4 recovery days before we play Chelsea on Sunday, I don't think either the last or next game will come into it. So with van Dijk, Fabinho, and Thiago, available again, I'd think the team is pretty predictable. Thiago only came out of isolation on Sunday so the risk of injury might be higher if he hasn't had much training so there is a possibly we go slightly cautious and bring him on the 2nd half rather than start him. Only absentees through injury/suspension are Adrian, Phillips, Robertson, Elliott, and Origi. No space for Jones on the bench so he might need to sit tight until the cup games next week.
Leicester only have 1 recovery day since the thumping by Man City and have a number of injuries/Covid absentees. A refreshed Salah and Mane could have a field day against a tired and depleted side.
