also when you're talking about playing gerrard like zidane, who play's behind zidane,a very defensive midfielder in makelle the same type of as hamman,to supply gerrard you've got to get the ball, hamman does that

I want Steven Gerrard to be given the freedom ZZ has at Real.Gerrard has all the attributes to force the game the same way Zidane does at Madrid.

I AGREE SG SHOULD DO EXACTLY WHAT ZZ IS DOING AND THEN MAYBE HE'LL BE ABLE TO SHINE EVEN MORE  :D
When you get the ball, I want you to beat a couple of men and smash the ball into the net, just the same way you used to at Bury," said Shankly. Lindsay replied: "But Boss that wasn't me, it was Bobby Kerr." Shankly turned to Bob Paisley and said: "Christ Bob, we've signed the wrong player."

thats true but if u haven't got someone doing the donkey work the likes of gerrard and zidane can't play to their potentia, thats why the reds need hamman and real need makelle

thanks gaz,but i agree,gh has to get the reds to give gerrard the ball further up feild to run at defences and score more goals than he does now,if gerrard has a weakness it is trying to play the killer ball to owen all the time from 50-60 yards defences are starting to read this, further up field he will have alot more options

WHAT ABOUT PLAYING SG INSIDE JUST IN FRONT OF MF?

Steven Gerrard's biggest asset is not his passing but his power when running with the ball.Yes he has great vision but it's his energy that the opposition fear most.He would run through a brick wall if the goal was behind it.

that is his ideal position, finnan going up the wing supporting diouf could and probably will bring the best out of SG it will give him more to work with,to many times last season the play broke down because carragher was to lazy to get up and down the field, but if diouf didn't get back he got rifled for it

lads gerrard finds it hard to get upfield b/c gh wants him behind the ball all the bloody time...its hard 4 him to confidently attack when he is in fear of losing it and getting blamed cause he's not behind the ball...
real have that problem too as their defence isnt that strong anyway...we have a much stronger defence than real and should be more comfortable sending gerrard up the field but gh doesnt like the risk...the difference is that real will score more than us by pushing forward and we struggle to get the goal with smooth passage of play...
i think zz gets up the ground but plays alot deeper than most might think...i think makelele is a work horse but doesnt win the ball as much as zz or receive it out of defence as much as zz either...
there is another key difference too...the english game is very quick and u have to be up and down all the time...
the spanish game is on bigger grounds and the build up is usually slower and players can wait to get into position...
its harder work in the english game i think to move between the halves at a fast pace constantly...

Stevie G needs to be given the license to attack teams,he will naturally work hard and win the ball anyway.Gh should be confident in Didi Hamman to do his job protecting the defence and give Gerrard the instruction to go forwards and hurt the opposition. If he does that he will score 10-15 goals no problem.
