With those players i think our strongest team would be:

However i think Heinze if possible should be brought in for the lb position. Quaresma maybe for lm although i think Kewell is great but just incase he has ANOTHER one of those seasons where he is absent most of the time.

So if we signed those players we could be looking at 2 good teams

We already have 5 players in the first team squad who will predominately serve us in the wide midfield areas: Sebastian Leto, Harry Kewell, Yossi Benayoun, Jermaine Pennant and Ryan Babel

Considering 3 have joined this summer and 1 joined last summer, what scope do we have for signing another player that plays wide midfield unless we release 1 or more of the above mentioned?

Quaresma would be a top quality signing and maybe release pennant  Quaresma is the type of skillfull flair player we need to challenge the man's for the premiership

That's not even including Lucas Levia and Sebastian Leto who I assume will both go into the first team squad, and if on top of that we signed another big name winger like Mancini or Quaresma, would our first team squad maybe be 2 or 3 players too many?

What about all these promising youngsters, when will they get a chance, will they even play in the league cup?

Rafa's comments last week suggest strongly that Pennant will be playing for us next year.

For me our situation in wide areas is similar to Man Utd's in central midfield 2 seasons ago (After Keane left and before Scholes returned from his eye injury, when they were playing the likes of O'Shea and Smith in midfield). Plenty of players who can "do a job", but no real proven quality.

The fact is that last season, with more or less a fully fit squad, we started Bolo Zenden in the Champions League final (a player many other top teams would be embarassed to have on their bench). Since that time we've added a 20 year old Argentinian for less than £2m (who played for the reserves last night rather than with the first team today, suggesting he's not as close to first team action as many of you hope) and a 20 year old right footed forward who CAN play on the left, but clearly it's not his best position.

I think we were poor in wide areas last season, and with Rafa not having spent any of his £40m summer transfer kitty on genuine wingers, I suspect we'll be poor in wide areas again next season.

In today's edition of ABOLA, Pinto da Costa(President of Porto) said that Quaresma will stay in Porto.
And it seems that Simão is only available for 25 million euros.

Looks like the two possibilities are more likely to be Heinze or Mancini, doesn't Mancini play on the left?

what is our ability to bring in new players going to be while we are away training and then on tour in Asia? If this Hienze rumor falls through, which it very well could, then where do we look? I have seen in the rumor mill about going after Juve's Italian U-21 captain, but I am not sure if that has any merit. I am sure that we are done adding wide players, we are loaded in CM, and we have plenty of strikers as well.  But I think it would help the team out a lot to add either a proper LB or cover at centre half
