Why does everyone keep going on about players on the left, we have Babel, Aurelio, Riise, Kewell and Kuyt can play there ???

Just read on liverpoolfc.tv that Aurelio is not wearing the number 2 jersey next year!I know its not a big fuss but he could be holding it for another left back.

It's Arbeloa, who has vacated the number mate.

Kind of like last season when we had Gonzales, Aurelio, Riise, Kewell, Zenden and Garcia for the left side and still struggled to find someone suitable week in, week out? ???

IMHO,

Babel=unproven in England and will need time to settle
Aurelio=a MUCH better LB than LM
Riise=ditto
Kewell=potential sicknote (I rate him highly but it's true)
Kuyt=never a proper LM and would be wasted there

I'd still like us to sign a quality winger and especially one that can play primarily on the left but who could operate on the right if need be without a massive drop in quality (e.g. Mancini, Quaresma, etc.).  Wingers are streaky players and we'll want a lot of options available on the flanks...especially when teams try and park the bus against us.

We have Leto on the Left as well, not that he really adds much as far as solving the starting LM problem.  In Kewells cameo appearances at the end of last season he showed that he hadn't completly lost it.  Regardless of fitness, it is still hard to tell if his form is going to be good enough to help us win games and ideally the league.  I have faith that he will be, but then there is the serious question of can he stay fit long enough for it to matter? I hope he can, but history says other wise.  I am not sure how happy Babel is going to be playing on the left as a proper LM, especially if it is only to cover Kewell, and I wonder how good it would be for his development as well.

I think Riise/Aurelio have proven that they can work decently as a LB LM pairing, but nothing extraordinary, certainly good enough as a #3 or 4 option. AND there is also a strong possibility of Yossi sometimes subbing in on the left.

Although I agree that I wish we had the top talent like Quaresma, it seems too late. and we seems too committed with money to LM already.  I think we ahve done too much for proper cover and investing in the youth and not enough to make sure we ahve the best starting LM possible.

I really hope this blows up in my face but I would MUCH rather have Quaresma and Kewell on the left, than Yossi as a utility player and Babel as a proming attacking player that can play on the left, but wishes to be a forward. Starting with Harry till Ricardo gets acclimated fully then having Kewell as cover.

It seems that Athletico Madrid is back on negotiations for Quaresma.

Online Translator:
CLUB ROJIBLANCO HAS MADE A NEW OFFER TO OPORTO
The interest of Madrid accelerates the draftee of Quaresma by the Athletic
The possible interest of Real Madrid by Ricardo Quaresma forced Athletic to accelerate and has made a new supply to the Oporto that it has appraised to his star in 25 million euros. Now, the one is the Portuguese picture that has the ball in the tile roof and will have to give an answer the Athletic one.The organization that presides over Pinto da Costa also gives that they would wait for a possible movement of the Liverpool after the supply rojiblanca or those that also it has had at his moment of Italian soccer.
