Weve now signed Fernando Torres which is strenghning our squad massively. We now have in my opinion 3 top quality strikers. Kuyt,Crouch and Torres, who will be battling for those two spots up front and my opinion Torres and Kuyt should be the starting 2.

Defending wise weve got one of the best right backs in the league in Steve Finnan, Two top quality Centre backs in Agger and Carragher. The left back position lies some worry. Riise would be the starting choice for me at the moment with Aurelio as cover. However i do think we should be looking for this TOP class left back. Weve been linked with Gabriel Heinze, I dont know how everyone else feels about him but i think he would be a quality signing for us. Also in our defence we dont have alot of cover no real cover for Finnan and apart from Hyypia theres no other real rotation choice for Carragher and Agger.

Midfield. Gerrard Alonso Mascharano and Sissoko these will be the main 4 competing for the 2 cm positions. Its a real shame because all 4 are quality. The good thing about this is we do have cover if there needed i.e suspension or injuries. Mascarano was Very impressive since coming in from west ham and for me if he had started the season with us i do think our finishing position would have been better. Gerrard is quality going forward and is the BEST in the premiership in supporting attacks. I think if he played with Mascharano we are sorted in the cm. Jermaine Pennant was good at the end of the season just gone but im not sure if he is part of a title winning side. He is defintely a squad player but at the moment is he a starter? This is the season we need to show everyone Liverpool have arrived and i think a great deal if attention will need to be showed to the wingers. Kewell missed all the season bar two games and this is where we can improve hugely from last season he says he is in the fittest state than he has been for ages and this can only be good news for us. He would be my 1st choice left midfielder. However we need a proper cover for the wingers.

Gabriel Heinze for left back
Daniel Alves Right back/Winger
Vincente Left Midfeild

Whats everyone elses opinion we do need more signing if we want to win this Premiership but who shall we bring in

Gabi Heinze
Micah Richards
Mancini/Quaresma/Vicente/Bentley - any of them 4 would do me.

Said it before,we should play to our strengths. If we've fore of the best midfielders in the league than we should play as many of them as possible. We have to sign a centre half as cover anyway,so why not buy a decent one+play all 3.Id be in favour of us going 3-5-2 this year.Using the best players that we have already+just adding the bare minimum, therefore spending more money on decent players+not wasting money on hopefuls.Id like to see Gabi Malito+Daniel Alves coming in.Mialto joining Cara+Agger at the back,Mascharano,Alonso+Stevie in the middle with Alves+Riise bombing up+down the wings.Torres+Crouch/Kuyt up front.Thats only 2 more players we need,if injuries happen or Rafa wants to change formation,we can always go back to 4-4-2,with the likes of Finnan,Aurelio,Pennent+Kewell all ready to fit in when needed. So just the 2 for me Mialto+Alves.

beerbaron your post is interesting. We can use this formation, however, we couldn't use it all season. But, our team would be very attack minded at the minor clubs. Against the big clubs we could go more defensive and nick away wins playing a more rigid 5-3-2 rather than a 3-5-2 against the small teams.

I'm all for it. Options or possibilities like rafa likes.

many possibilities :D

Positions which IMHO have to be strengthened:

1. Both wings:
If Harry is doing well and doesn't get injured, might be ok for the left wing, with Riise in cover. But if we don't buy another left back, covering Riise when playing winger, we could be a bit short
Pennant has shown interesting things at end of the season, but for me, he isn't a starter yet. Only other solution is Gerrard playing RW and I don't like that, because he's so much more useful in CM IMO.
For example: Gamst Pedersen for the left, Quaresma for the right.

2. Left back: with Aurelio injured until ???, it left Riise alone, and as he could be sometimes useful as left winger, we need another one.
One solution: Heinze, personally I don't like the player, but I must reckon that he does his job well and could play center back.

3. Central Defense: if Hyypiä stays, could be enough so. Otherwise, Micah Richards, but I doubt City would let him go.

To summarize, my shopping could be so:

1. Two wingers L and R (Priority to right if target no 2 is reached, otherwise we need both IMO)
2. Left back
3. Central defender (if Hyypiä doesn't stay)

That means roughly 3 quality players to play on the flanks...

We still need:

Centre back - Gabriel Milito would be my choice, arguably the best defender in La Liga last season and is a player who will improve our first team not just our squad.

Left Mid - Malouda looks like he's headed for Real/Chelsea, and Mancini would probably cost over 15m and I'm not too sure he's worth that? My choice here would be Pedersen as he's quick, skillful and a good crosser, and Belamy could be used as a part exchange with Blackburn.

Right mid - Joaquim/Schwiensieger/Lennon

Striker - Kuyt and Crouch aren't good enough to be first teamers if you're serious about winning the league imo, Tevez is worth the £30m that MSI are asking for him I reckon, he's young so will have a big sell on fee and he's proved he can handle the premiership no problem.

Argentina play with riquelme, veron and cambiaso  - all centre mids,  ffs play gerrard on the right , mascherano and alonso , with Kewell or  SOME quality left winger, 15mill plus,      Philip Lahm  12m , sorted!

I'd say Rafa's recent admission that he intends to sign wingers is an indication that Gerrard will play more often than not in the centre next season. I hope that's the case as that's where he is most effective. If he's given the protection from Mascherano, Alonso or Sissoko then he can work his magic. In certain games it may be necessary to play him on the right, but overall I'd say Gerrard down the middle on a consistent basis with support from real quality wingers, combined with the signing of Torres who is a more dynamic forward then what we already have is what makes next season so exciting.

well...

1) segio ramos was probably the best defender in la liga last season but i have to agree that milito has been very solid for quite some time now and a move to a top club is only a matter of time... too expensive if you ask me but a quality player and i dont think hes a player ud buy to put on the bench or to have as backup for agger ...if he comes, he takes aggers position....simple as... captain of his club and becoming an international regular....cant see us spending 10mill+ for a player to have as backup for agger..
id personally go for milito and start him ahead of agger but since many seem to rate agger and think hes a first team regular already....think we should be looking at someone like heinze.. i agree hed improve our first team as he obviously is better than agger atm..

2) mancini is simply world class... hes one of the best wingers in world football and i agree hed cost more than 15 mill... around 20 mill if you ask me but worth every penny... he's make a huge difference in a side lacking flair, dribbling skills and goals from midfielders as is the case for liverpool.... would be a brilliant signing but just cant see roma accepting any offers for him as they seem to be puttin together a pretty good side for next season... pederson i dont see as major improvement on what we got... to me...we either go for a top class winger who would be expected to be become a starter or we go for a backup and hope kewell stays fit..

3) juaquin is a great shout but again....too expensive and after what his displays for valencia by the end of last season... dont think theyd sell for any reasonable price.. out of our reach imo.... schwienstieger is a good player but dnt see him moving from bayern anytime soon... lennon is too overrated and overpriced + wouldnt improve the side much...

4) agree that kuyt and to a lesser extent crouch arent good enough... but realistically speaking... cant expect us to go out and sign another 30mill striker this season... maybe a year long loan deal... or maybe have voronin as a backup right winger or backup attackin midfielder or whatever and get owen as a 4th striker... him and torres would be brilliant and would give us the best forward line in the league imo... wouldnt even cost much given his release clause and all...

You just contradict yourself, you say he would take Agger's position "simple as" and then say he would be backup for Agger, which is it?

I personally think he'd have to work his nuts off to displace the current partnership, but I think he is more than capable of doing so.

Mancini for me. i have been very impressed with what i have seen of him. It will probably cost us about £15m to bring him here but i think we need someone with his skill level. Torres and Mancini would give a very good signal to the rest of the prem that we aren't going to mess about buying players for less than £10m in the hope that they will turn out to be ok only to end up having to shift them on 1 or 2 seasons later at a knock down price. These would be players that could be here for the forseeable future.

I really like the look of this guy, he has a lot of pace and a mean shot but for some reason i cant really see Rafa going for him.
