DANIEL STURRIDGE- Official thread

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

For once in a long time, someone else other than Suarez was our star man. Suarez played well but D.S. played even better. That was his best game since he joined and I think he was more determined and hunger for this match because he wanted to show citeh what they missed. Their fans had no right to boo him because he was not their first team sheet regular. Thank you Chelsea for selling us for such a bargain and have fun with the sulking bloke we sold to you for 50M.

I'd say the key is Sturridge knows he's No 1 striker with a key role and place in the team every week which automatically gives the lad confidence. Torres was always under the kosh from Drogba etc.. so his confidence deserted him - just like Carroll. Another parallel is to imagine whether Carroll would be any more successful in getting his confidence back than Torres who is still struggling when he plays every week under Wafa.

he was exceptional yesterday and i said it in the match thread that his performance was the best ive seen from him in red and any other colour for that matter.
as reg says its down to the fact that he is a guaranteed starter and the confidence is growing so i believe he will mature into a fine striker.
i wouldnt take anything from him for that goal yesterday and there is a few posts on the last page amazed that he got that power into the shot from an almost standing position, all i can say is it was a big toe or toe poke as the commentators were calling it. :nod

We are a lot better with him in the side, the last couple of matches have seen go back to wasting in front of goal. We should have won the last two matches where we lost 2-0

Suarez is better with Sturridge aswell. Suarez like Vs WBA was marked out of the game he was our only threat. When Danny plays teams have to look at 2 fantastic players to defend

That is exactly the point, we look better as a team with alot more balance. The combination of skill and speed is too much for most teams, without him we are more predictable.

sturridge is a natural goalscorer.
luis gets pushed wide when they both play and the difference is the work that luis does in that position. when luis is on his own like the last 2 games there is no one producing the same workrate and therein lies the problem.
borini should be that player but either rodgers has no confidence in him or he is indeed like most claim, useless.

Another good show today. He plays his position very well and is a clever player. A great buy at 12 million!

Good game? whenever a strikers misses that many of a chances he can't be happy with his performance...Made some nice passes with a great setup for Enriques goal but failed on his primary task.

he was superb again today, his finishing was a bit off but his all round game was fantastic.
he has got an arrogance on the ball that not many british players have, he knows he is a good player.

Failed in his primary task?  You mean being part of the first XI and helping the team win the match?

Sure it would have been nice if he'd have scored on his chances earlier in the game, but that shouldn't take away from the other work he did on the pitch that played a big part in build up and creating space for others to get into scoring chances.

I won't celebrate Rafa going........ but I will be over the moon if Dalglish comes in. League within 2 years if he gets the job, AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

His primary task ?! Do you mean scoring which he did.

A striker given multiple chances to score should do so. He did good on other aspects of the game as you mentioned but failed in his primary task.
If you ask any LFC fan what has been the ONE reason for us not fighting for CL spot it would the lack of clinical finishing. It's not a matter of "Nice to score" it is essential for a striker to score given multiple chances. Why do you think Gerrard gave him the penalty kick?

He has now scored 5 in 7 games since arriving at the club and you are critisizing him for missing chances in a game we won 5 nil and he scored ! . You need to have a word with yourself

Incredibly its possible he is now more important to this team than Suarez.
