Trent Alexander-Arnold official thread

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I looked but did not find his thread so if it exists please merge this.

I am really impressed with what I have seen from him so far. He looks calm and composed and he plays his position well, I think he offers more than Clyne going forward. His goal last night impressed me just because he had the confidence to give it a go but also his technique was very good. About time we see academy players coming through and impressing. Hope he continues to excel.

Yup your right about time a lad from the academy is claiming his place in the main xi. Trent has got a lot of potential to be very very good.

I think I said in a thread a month back, but this is the first time we've started a season with an academy player who has a realistic chance of displacing someone in the first 11.

Tough day for the lad. Think we need to be careful with him, still only young and may have to use Milner in certain games while Clyne is out. Look's a bit vulnerable defensively and might be best to ease him into the team rather than having him as a starter at the moment

A real shocker for him today. Got turned inside out and upside down. Needs to get more experience against lesser opposition and watch videos of how bad he was and what he needs to improve.

Felt sorry for him to be honest. Didnt get much help in front of him and there is are no real characters in that defence to talk him through games.

He is a kid and defence is probably the hardest position to learn your trade at that age, especially up against the likes of De Bruyne, Sane etc. Was getting doubled up on and needed protection which he never really got.

Will make him stronger though and a lot of the time these negative experiences are the ones where you learn the most.

This is correct, he was supposed to be backed up by Salah and Mane was supposed to cover Moreno and they were both left stranded a few times. He was playing against Mendy who is a good player so I don't blame him and he was double teamed by Mendy and DeBruyne.

In 4/5 years time, with a bit more experience, this kid will be epic.

We talk about a game of two halves, but he is a player of two halves. Half of him is an exciting, skillful attacking player who gets in great positions to shoot or put good balls in the box, the other half is a clumsy, naive and sloppy player who is constantly out of position or out-muscled by players who take advantage of his inexperience. In order to get the experience he has to have more games, but surely he has to wise up sooner rather than later and stop being such an easy target for the opposition to take advantage of?

Hes been put in a very awkward position having to build his first team career and grow in this team.

Ideally you use him sparingly, and if he had better perhaps more experienced defensive players around him he would be protected and covered for any errors.

Appreciate Clyne would probably be playing if he was fit so its a massive learning curve for TAA, hes doing alright and needs to keep his head up and not allow this back line to damage his confidence.
