New Liverpool FC store biggest in Europe May 21 2008

by Alan Weston, Liverpool Daily Post

THE biggest official club store in Europe will open its doors to the public next week as part of the new Liverpool One complex.

The Liverpool FC superstore consists of more than 10,000 sq ft of selling space, filled with LFC merchandise and product.

The leisurewear range was created by Liverpool-born fashion and retail guru George Davies, who has previously designed collections for Next, George at Asda and Marks and Spencer’s per una range.

A visit by some top secret Liverpool legends is promised to welcome fans to the new superstore when it opens at 10am a week tomorrow.

The ground floor of the new store boasts an architectural showpiece in the form of a spiral staircase sweeping up to the first floor.

The Heritage Wall will run along one wall and feature images of some of the greatest players that Liverpool has produced.

There will also be a “personalisation zone” offering personalised LFC merchandise, and a relaxing “chill out zone”.

The store will also feature a mechanical shirt print area, where customers can see their shirts being printed and delivered through the floor to be collected from the chill out zone.

The design company behind the superstore, S’porter Retail , was established by Mr Davies in 1995 and specialises in combining fashion with sport.

Mr Davies said: “My heart and head is always in Liverpool. I am a true Reds fan, as was my father, and it was one of the greatest days of my life when I started working with the football club.

“The new Liverpool FC superstore will be truly revolutionary for the high street and for Liverpool.

“We have used cutting edge design and technology to make this store a unique shopping experience.

“I am proud that Liverpool will be getting one of the most exciting store concepts that I have ever worked on.”

The club store in South John Street will be one of the first retail outlets to open when the first phase of the city’s crucial £1bn shopping, leisure and residential complex is launched next week.

Other names opening their doors to the public next week include the flagship 180,000 sq ft Debenhams store, the brand new John Lewis store and restaurants including Wagamama and Cafe Rouge.

A new store?

A new stadium?

We see a lot of conceptual designs rendered on computers, but where are the JCB's?

Unless we see real construction work underway, it's all false promise.

The shop is opening next week manhatten, so we will have two huge shops in Liverpool, whilst the bitters have none

The "Chill Out Zone"?! ???

What in the sweet mother of fuck are these Yanks playing at!? Must they always name things like this? That's if it even was them, but it sounds like something they'd do. It just sounds really daft.

Why not go the whole hog and add a "Twilight Zone" too. A place where you can go to view freaks such as the Nevilles and Luke Chadwick after they retire.

People are over-reacting!!!!

The chill-out zone just means its obviosuly a place where u can either get a bit of food or a coffee or something and take it easy! I personally cudnt care less if it had a twilight zone as long as it generated revenue for the club!! If people want us competing with chelsea and man united then we need to open state of the art stores like this to generate more money for the club!  This is a positive step!!!

Im sure the yanks didnt think this up, it was obviously in the pipeline long before by this George Davies guy! No way wud have they have gotten the store idea thought up and built within a year, considering how fast they are at puttin spades in the ground, altho thats a different matter entirely

I think the Chill-out zone is exactly what it is for, so customers chill out while they customize jerseys.  It isn't that fastest process, and if it offers food for a decent price who cares  :D .

Lame name though, I know.  We don't even have things called a chill-out zone in America (in my town anyway) so I'm not even sure if it was the American owners.

I gotta say, nice stairs.

Chill out zone haha. I've never heard of anything like that in America, so don't bash us for that. However I do remember something called the 'Chill zone' in a Dom Jolly clip. It was that oversized cell phone sketch that he always did.

10,000 sq ft seems like a lot till you compare it to Debenhams, 180,000 sq ft, you`ll get lost in that fooker :).

its great to see them finally making an effort, hate the yanks all you want but they know how to get at your wonga. watch this space as i doubt this will be the last store we see opening up.
