No one is putting the boot in. It was just an observation which you perceived to be a dig. And quite ironic your comment about waiting on the sidelines to put the boot in.

Agreed. Calling the manager a "sheister", comparing him with the owners and generally attacking his integrity had nothing to do with tactics, team selection or rotation.

spot on some of the comments made by some of the posters about Roy were just plain spiteful. I hope he has a great start to the season as the wrist slashers and manic depressives on here will have a field day. Mick you were never a disgrace mate so just ignore the tw@ts when they try to wind you up.

I don't think Mick is a "disgrace". I purposely deleted that part of Bav's post. In part I think he's right to take Bav and some other members to task on what they've said and continue to say about matters relating to Rafa and Roy, because quite frankly some of the things they come out with are wholly inconsistent and unfair. So too though were some of his own comments of the previous manager. In the summer of '09 Rafa was a genuinely nice guy, but as the 09/10 season wore on and debate intensified, he became a "sheister" and a "nasty person"; indeed "Machievelli had nothing on this guy". Fair enough if that's your opinion - S@int had similar thoughts as I recall - but let's be honest about these things, that's all.

I feel much better looking at this now knowing he is coming back. Can't wait to see him banging in the goals next season.

Least we can all agree on that one Bav. When he's fit and firing, absolutely on top of his game he is virtually unplayable. I still think he is the best out and out striker we've ever had, and that's saying something.

I think if he keeps up his amazing scoring record for a good few more years on the trot then....maybe you could say that. He needs to win some silverware with us too.

But I think even with his injuries he is still the best out and out in the world at the moment. Left leg, right leg, headers.. he scores them all.

That idiot of TS Adrian Durham must have felt a right idiot this morning. Yesterday he was saying he 'had it on reliable authority that a deal with Chelsea was imminent'.

I think so yes mate. I think it's between him, Rush and Fowler. I don't think Owen was ever in those three players class, and although I loved Aldridge as a player, I don't think he was either. Kenny I've discounted because he was more S@ints "second striker" than a real goal getter.

Out of the three mentioned, I think Torres marginally takes it from Rush, with Fowler just behind as much due to his lack of pace as anything else.

Torres for me is the best striker we've ever had, a truly wonderful player. It also goes without saying that he was a brillijnat signing by Rafa too.

Well as much as i love Torres , i think he still has a few flaws to his game . His first touch at times is p!ss poor , his decision making at times is also poor but i put that down to him being selfish which is a good thing in a striker . His workrate ie first line of defense could be better . So no at the minute i'd put him behind Rush and Hunt and on a par with Robbie . Good thing is ,if he stay's fit he will still improve and that's when i will fully agree with you mate .

Although it appears that Torres has committed to LFC I would still think we need to plan the first few weeks without him. He returns to Melwood on Monday injured and requires a couple of weeks before he can be classed fit to train. If I were Roy I would then give him 2-3 weeks of core strengthening (call it pre-season) to ensure he is in peak condition for the season. No doubt we would miss him over that time but I think forgoing a few weeks now will see us get the best of him for (hopefully) the rest of the season.

Otherwise I worry that bringing him back too soon will result in another season like last year and we will lose him for large parts of the season!!

and what happens to us if he has an injury plagued season. We are fecked then. We need 2 top strikers else we could see another season like the last one.

Hence me suggesting we give him 2-3 weeks to give him and us the best chance of seeing him for the rest of the season.

If he does have another injury ravaged season and, as a result of him not being fit we struggle, I think he will move on next summer due to frustration and we would be lucky to get £20m - £30m for him..!

Torres is one of the best players in Europe when free of injury, if I was a manager I would try to sign a longer contract with him now.

Agreed LFC. Let's be more honest about these things. Some people are not aware that they are themselves guilty of accusations they hurl against the others. If you point the finger at someone you have to be aware that you are pointing 4 fingers (well actually 3 fingers) at yourself. The main problem is that people skew and exagerate things in their posts so much according to their underlying agenda that there is no fair and critical assessment of issues.

Thats about where Id rate him at the moment.
An injury free couple of seasons could see him improve beyond all belief IMHO.
