Should we get Owen back ? - General

I said earlier in the thread that Owen won't come back and I stand by that. Having said that, to pretend that getting him back for anything like what we were forced to sell him for is anything other than good business is flying in the face of reality. At his age and with his quality, anything around 10 million for Owen is a steal. Just watch the ruck of clubs in for him if he becomes available around that price.
I'm not his biggest fan by any means but its silly to deny the guys quality. Anyone who genuinely believes he is not a good player is either allowing emotion to cloud their view or is not very knowledgeable about the game in my view.

It would be great if Owen came back but I will very surprised to see it happen. I doubt he would leave Madrid after one season anyway, and if he did choose to call it a day there I feel a return to Anfield is unlikely. He would feel like a complete failure, returning to Anfield after walking away thinking he could cut it with the galagticos. Just cant see him wanting that somehow. If he returns he would likely look for fresh faces and a new challenge at Arsenal or Chelsea.

I'd take him back for anything up to ten million. He's proving at Madrid that he's top class and can score against anyone, and I think him and Morientes would be superb. It's hard to recall owen ever really striking up a good partnership with anyone, but I think Mori has the maturity, the modesty and the team ethic to play split striker to Owen.

Owen must also surely see the potential in playing off Mori and in front of gerrard and Alonso.

Also, the World Cup 2006 will weigh heavily on Owen's mind. If, as seems likely, Madrid retain Raul and sign Robinho, and are also sniffing round Adriano, Owen is toast in Luxemburgo's eyes. He won't wanna be rotting anywhere, and I think getting into his stride for the England team he wants to be playing English football.

Also, ironically, if Owen continues his form at madrid this season he can't possibly be deemed a failure, so he can come home with his head held high and point to Madrid's daft galacticos policy as the problem.
