As time goes on we see a constant flow of flops put on the red shirt. Great players like Carra and Stevie are not getting any younger so I think we are just more fustrated more than anything.

Secondly, what is so special about Bosingwa? The portugese press rated Ferreira better than him. Just because the like sof Man Utd and Chelsea over pay for average players how does that relate to our signings? Did you miss last seasons purchase of Torres?

Thirdly, since when is Rafa signing a bosman mean the board aren't giving him money to spend. Its May FFS! I could start to level with you if this was August but the season has barely finished.

Some of these comments only go to show some fans short sightedness or an excuse to twist a story to suit their own agenda.

I don't know if bosingwa is worth what they payed , probably not. Infact i don't think what utd payed for carrick hargreaves anderson and nani was worth it . We have twice been able to buy in the top range of the market in the last i don't know five or six years . THey are Torres and Mascherano imo . If we were or are able to compete in the transfer market at the top level , do you think we would be where we are now?

Hicks and Gillett made promises regarding bringing in better players and spending the money to do so . Rafa has had to sell players before he could buy . Net spend last summer £20 million , not much more than under moores. The rest of the money to buy players has been borrowed . Now i don't know if you realise that G+H are in a bit of a mess financially , so where do you suppose there going to get the money from to buy the better players .

Chelsea are in a rare position where there owner is a multi-billionaire and will provide cash whenever. Man Utd have debt upto their eyeballs, it has only recently been reported in the press that Chelsea and Man Utd's combined debt is 1Bn, and that is a equal spread of roughly 500m each.

Managed debt is what makes the world go round. The only reason Man Utd haven't gone into administration is their continued success has provided funds to continue to repay their debts. Your living in dream world if you think that any other buyer is going to front their personal fortune over getting a loan to buy players.

If dic come in i'm pretty certain they are going to borrow the money to buy the club . What the yanks did was promise they were not going to "do a glazier" and put the debt against a club , they lied and if the banks call in the debt who suffers ,the club and the fans.

We have never been a rich or glamourous club, even in our glory years, and used to have a reputation for fighting through adversity and rising to the challenge. Now, though, everyone is just so lazy and defeatist and prefer the Chelsea model.

If he's not good enough, fine, but lets support the lad at least.

But we do need cash investment in our side and they are not putting the cash in as of yet therefore are not sticking to the agreed business model for the club ie get rid. But this aint a G & H thread is it.

it is understandably doom and gloom cause of our own pair albeit a lot more stupid pair of glazers, like it has been said we are struggling for funds, but there may be a rainbow on the horizon because.........i have been going on about it for weeks, liverpool will probs be one of the top runners for the russian player of year for the last 4 years running, andrey arshavin..there has been thousands of rumours flying about that he will not sign a new contract for zenit st petersburg, he has known for the last 4 - 6  months that rafa has had a regular scout on him, so if he is heading here on a free, we may of landed a potential world class player for free!!!
as for degen have been watching a program called goallisimo......about 2 in the morn on channel 4 :P, it covers all the domestic league's excluding some of the more exclusive ones...... i enjoy watching the ultra defensive teams from the germans, most of the german teams respectively that end up high in the league have v v v very strong defence, for example bayern munich

Mancs and chelsea over payed for their players , look at arsenal , helb bargin at 8 mill i think , torres was worth every penny for 20 million and i would have payed 40 if i knew he was this good

Masch and Torres are 2 examples where money has been well spent

Therein lies the problem, we want signings we expect to be a good signing and looks it on face value. You've summed it up nicely, if inadvertently, by saying we hope it is a good signing.

Did we expect a lot of Voronin? No
Did we expect a lot of Torres? Yes

It's great IF a player who few know much about works out, I'd rather the signings were right up there and while you do get flops like Shevchenko or Veron, the expectation was they would succeed because they were great players. For every Veron there's also plenty of Djemba Djembas, Smiths, and  Forlans. The higher the value, the more likely they are to succeed. The problem is higher likelihood is still no guarantee, but that's no reason to keep backing the unlikely

I think usually when you spend a lot of money on a player you have more hope of hikm being good. The difference with Torres is we knew he was a good player so it was only a matter of time. With Voronin it was more a case of clinging to the hope that some how in some possible way he is actually a good player and that we got a bargin. I think the latter will be the way most go about thinking about Degen. I will of course give him a chance before really laying into him but he isnt the calibre of player i was hoping we would be signing.

I agree, however it will be in the back of everybody's mind how much he cost, the expectations etc and we'd all rather be backing a high quality signing I'm sure
