Newcastle in for morientez - New thread, didnt know where to put it

Its nothing to do with all of these, guys!!

THink about it, when man utd were publicly wooing Rooney and all of a sudden Newcastle tried to sabotage the deal by going public that they too are interested. Its bulls--hit cos Newcastle know that they are never gonna get Rooney,so what is their motive?

To inflate the price..simple,...that's how man utd ended up paying a pile of cash for shrek and newcastle are trying the same trick with us!!!

You might us now, whats in it for newcastle then? I can think of two possible reasons...

One...well, think about it, each time each of its rival pay more than necessary for a player, they lose out in terms of cash available to compete with newcastle for the players they really want.

Two..there's some sneaky side deal either involving clubs/agents in an attempt to get liverpool to pay more (and maybe newcastle gets a kick back..who knows?)

my thoughts exactly, they were never prepared to get Rooney and totally screwed Man U out of about an extra $10 million.  I have no problem with that till they try to pull this sh.it with us, I mean you can screw with Man U, cus they r a mindless cult of glory hunters, while we are here through the thick and the thin.

I say we up the ante and leave Newcastle holding the bill at the end and make a swoop for Anelka.

I think if Morientes comes it will be because Newcastle withdraw their bid.  Its not up 2 morientes whether Newcastle or Liverpool's bid is accepted so if real just refuse to sell at the price we want to buy at then morientes cant come here.  Simple as that.

They wanted newcastle to bid in order for us to raise our bid higher, they are p#ssed off on the first refusal of gerrard.
They are 13 points behind Barca now which is a joke, when players say I want to go to the best club in the world such a such points behind the leaders isnt good enough. e.g. Gerrard, Owen :glare:
Real may even get knocked out the CL before us, then you think of players like Owen and gerrard saying I want to win the CL.
If I was Steven I would stay where I was for now, chelsea are buying more superstar players he would find it very difficult to get a game, and Real are not such a force they think they are, a team full of egos who believe in there own hype.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

If your theory is correct than he won't go to Newcastle. Newcastle are far from making it in the Champions League. Morientes won't be able to play in the Champions League because he's cup tied but signing him would help us finish in the top four and qualify for next years CL.

exactly. some people are saying its not a good idea to buy morientes because he's cup tied for this season's CL. we have to make sure we get the slot for next year aswell, and while i think we'll progress i don't think we'll win it. we have to get into the top four and we need a selection of quality strikers to do that.

newcastle will deffo not be there.

at the end of the day it comes down to the player himself.

real madrid confirmed this morning that they had received a bid from newcastle in excess of the 3.5m we originally offered for him.

all i say is that if morientes has any ambition to still win things in the game and wants a good chance of playing champions league football then he'll come to us. who would seriously want to go to newcastle the state they're in?

i don't think newcastle will buy morientas unless they sell bellamy or dyer or robert.........

i guess madrid is using newcastle to hike the bid. They sure need the cash. At this rate, they won't be in the champions league next season  :D .

Heard they just lost at home  :p  And to think the owen wanted guaranteed champions league every season  :D

Real Madrid are horrible in their current state. They can say goodbye to the Champions League next year if they stay in the same spot they're are in.

Well said. I am positive that Morientes will join us but then again I was positive that Owen wouldn't go to Madrid and then couldn't sleep for a week after hearing that he left us.

FERNANDO Morientes has told Real Madrid he has no interest in joining Newcastle, leaving the way clear for Liverpool to complete a £5m deal during the transfer window.

Rafa Benitez is confident Morientes' determination to join the Reds can seal the transfer.

But the Anfield boss has warned his patience has a limit, and he won't pay over the odds to bring his prime target to Merseyside.

Newcastle have muddied the waters since Liverpool's £3.5m bid was lodged by declaring their interest in the 28-year-old.

However, Morientes has rejected the idea of a move North East and the player has told Madrid officials he only wants an agreement to be reached with Benitez.

Morientes' attitude is the key to the transfer proceeding and the Reds are waiting for the green light to conclude negotiations, with the striker eventually moving to Liverpool for around £5m.

Benitez says he is encouraged by what he's heard from the player.

"He is a fantastic player and I have read in the newspaper he wants to come here and would prefer to come to Liverpool," said Benitez.

"But we have a saying in Spain that you never sell the house to buy a window. You don't spend more money than you have.

"They say the player has a high price so we're still scouting the market. If it doesn't happen we'll see if we can find someone else to bring in."

Meanwhile, defender Josemi has been ruled out for the Christmas period and could be missing for a month due to a knee injury.

The right back will undergo a scan to assess whether there's cartilage damage.

Benitez takes his side to West Brom on Boxing Day still coming to terms with the culture shock of festive football.

"It's normal to play so many games over Christmas here.

It's not the same in Spain, but we understand the situation," he said.

"There are 12 points at stake so it's an important time. We can get closer to the top four.

"We know we need to improve our level away from home. We've analysed how we play at home and away and we know we aren't doing so well. It's a mental problem because the tactics are the same."

Liverpool are set to receive £3m from television rights as they are in the middle of a 13-match consecutive run where their games are screened live.
