the severe lack of football knowledge in the boardroom over recent years is all finally coming to fruition now sadly. it's come to the position where we spend more time talking about who's going out instead of who's coming in.

I know, it's worrying if truth be told.

I don't believe Rodgers has the backing of FSG financially, he probably got the job on the premise he'd be resourceful - perhaps RBG does have a point in the other thread about selling Carroll, to basically raise funds. We're definitely on a sell to buy policy.  :glare: How the f.uck are we supposed to compete.

in all my years supporting us i cant recall another summer where so many of our bigger names have been linked with a move away from anfield (skrtel, agger, suarez, aquilani, carroll, reina...hell, even raheem sterling)
once the perception arises that a club is tightening the purse strings (especially in terms of the wage bill) then other clubs start to circle knowing that players may become unsettled.

Our best players are being linked to other clubs so often because we have failed to qualify for the Champions League once again. Not only did we fail, we didn’t even get close and were further away than ever. If Barcelona and Man City and are making moves on the likes of Agger and Skrtel you can’t really blame them for seriously considering it as they are lightyears ahead of us.

It didnt help that Rodgers talked about a 4 year plan to get back into the top4. I'm not sure many of these players are willing to spend 4 years trying to get back to the top4 when they can double their wages and have a chance to get some trophies at another club.

yep. in this day and age the perception that a club is "standing still" essentially means that they are going backwards. as a club we've had no vision of where we have been going for a while. whilst rafa had his detractors towards the end, at least he had a vision of where he wanted the club to go. unfortunately towards the end some fans thought he was actually the main problem at the club when it was obvious that he wasn't. i like rodgers and think he has a vision aswell going forward but whether we can keep our best players is a major worry, especially without champions league football.

i think dalglish has a clear idea of where he wanted to go. forking out so much on (mostly) developing british talent was a pretty strong signal of how he sure the future of the club. the down side is that he didn't do it all that well.

a vision maybe, but definitely a safety first approach based on primarily reducing the wage bill. these players were considered safe buys due to their premier league experience but as we've found out to our cost, this guarantees nothing.

the point is that we've got no sporting director and no CEO. there's nobody above the manager with any football experience. purslow and comolli were disasters. ayre might have a good business background but he's done little during his time at the club to prove himself to the fans. it's all very worrying.  just look at how arsenal have struggled to win anything since david dein left. they can't attract the very top players anymore and they lose their best players every year, and that's with champions league football which we don't have.

all our decent players are being linked with moves away because they believe the club has gone down hill over the last few years.
they have seen new owners come in who are clueless, want to tear up the wage structure and have installed a very inexperienced manager to bring back success.it wasnt a wise move to come out and say it could take 4 years to even qualify for the cl and then say that you might not be here to see it through.he made this statement before he even had the squad back for training which was a big mistake imo.its also looking like we are on a sell to buy which is stupid given the demands of the owners and where they want the club to be at.
we were always going to run this risk once rodgers was appointed and now we have to rely on him to replace like for like in terms of quality so we dont get set back too long.
from the confirmed targets we are linked to in allen, dempsey and borini im not so sure he can.

I hate to be pessimistic but it's like summer 2010 all over again. A manager comes from a mid table club, lowers expectations and then goes in for players who he's worked for before.

The general lack of ambition from top to bottom is frightening.

The thing is i really thought brendan would be a no nonsense type of guy. I dont care what anyonelse says Aquilani is definitely his type of player. Now caroll ok fair enough lower the wage bill but for fecksake get rid of the deadwood cole henderson adam downing. Its starting to feel like that we are doing a portsmouth and having a fire sale. The one thing we had was our defence was solid once that gets split up god only knows what will happen get a grip owners.

Well i am concerned with the lack of activity of players coming in and the rumours about outgoings, to suggest we are having a fire sale is a bit OTT mate.

Im underwhelmed so far this summer also.  I think the  owners want Rodgers to prove himself before they back him in the market.

I personally don't think FSG have a clue what they're doing anymore.

I suppose the only consolation is knowing the manager likes to play positive football. But yeah the lack of transfer activity is a bit worrying. I fear will will go into the start of the season a few players short.
