LIVERPOOL have emerged as shock candidates to land Mario Melchiot in the summer, reports the Sunday People.

The Chelsea full-back will be available on a free transfer at the end of next month and has already attracted interest from several Premiership clubs - most notably Newcastle.

What do you reckon lads, Mario Melchiot?
IMO i don't think the lad is that good, he has been pretty average the last few weeks, and is no better than Finnan or Henchoz. If we are going to buy a defender from Chelsea it should be Gallas.

Decent player.

Not bad for a free transfer.

I wouldn't be upset if he came as a squad player. However he isn't gonna improve the team really.

Melchiot would be another xavier which was a complete waste of time and money.He is not better than what we have at the club so therefore he would just be making up numbers.

Well i personally dont think hes that bad a player, not good enough for us though. Id like to see Finnan make the spot his. Hes been the let down for me this season as i had such high hopes. Old Jamie C can deputise there as well so Melchiot would just be more wasted wages if u ask me
