Hamann: time for steve to go

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Liverpool midfielder Didier Hamann concedes that he would advise Steven Gerrard to leave if the right opportunity arose.

The Anfield favourite has become very much the heartbeat of Anfield but the Merseyside outfit's inability to compete for major silverware has led to inevitable speculation over the player's future.

Gerrard pledged his future to his home town club in the summer, despite an approach from Chelsea, but reports suggest at the close of this season fresh bids will be forthcoming.

Several of Europe's finest are tracking the impressive midfielder and Hamann admits a spell abroad could be of great benefit to Gerrard's development.

''If a player one day has the chance to get some experience in a foreign country and play for a big club, then I would advise anyone to do it,'' Hamann told the Daily Star.

''Steven would be able to play anywhere is Europe. He has the ability, power and strength to do well.

''It worked out well for me because I have learned a lot more than I could have learned had I stayed in Germany.

''It's a big decision for Steve. He is 24. Does he want to go into a foreign country?

''He is the captain and a very important part of the team and the club.

''If somebody comes in and offers to pay whatever, you never know what the club is going to decide.''

After playing alongside talents such as Zidane, Savchenko etc at Nou Camp last week, I am sure he (in fact anyone of us) will jump at the opportunity to play with such company week-in, week-out again. I will be really surprised if Stevie remains in a red shirt come May! :(

yeah he played next to them Talents and looked totally out of his depth.I do agree with Hamann(if he said any of this) that SG will become a more complete player if he went to play abroad i dont think any English club could develop him more than LFC have and will continue to do so but abroad would be a different thing all together. And before anyone starts with the usual rubbish Yes i am a Liverpool fan and i do want SG to stay.Im just airing an opinion of my own

On Gerrard, I hoped his heart is still with us because he is not showing it recently. A big money pull from glamourous big city clubs (in London & Madrid) looks tempting, and sadly we must prepare for a team without him next season. A Stevie at full flow is a joy to watch and an asset to any team and I hope he does stay...
However, bringing Owen back will mean losing Baros (and prob Cisse & FSP) and disrupt team harmony for he will demand seniority and place in the starting XI.

I would have Owen back tomorrow, we certainly miss his goals and miss him in our team, when Owen plays he brings 3 players with him.
Imagine Morientes, baros or Cisse along side him, it would have defences quaking in there boots.
Whether Rafa would have him back though thats another story.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

Hamman DID NOT SAY THE ABOVE.

I read the full interview (which was in the Sunday Times) which said that if Stevie wanted to leave Liverpool Hamman said he'd recommend Stevie to go abroad instead of going to Chelsea.
