Football focus

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby 67-1161385641 » Sat Nov 04, 2006 1:29 pm

Is anyone watching football focus? Someone commented that Alex Ferguson is the best manager to ever grace football. He's been a fantastic manager and he has done great things with United but to say he is better than Paisley or even Shankly for that matter is pure lunacy.

That has my blood boiling now.

Didn't watch it.  Agree he's been a good manager, but Paisley was a great one.  Everyone seems to be jumping on the bandwagon with Fergie at the moment just because he's reached a milestone at the club.  I'd say Paisley, Shanks, Stein and even Busby were better but the best of all time has got to be Paisley.

Just because Alex has been there for so long does not make him a good manager, its what you bring to the club (titles and trophies) and there have been past Liverpool managers which have done more than Fergie.

Excellent, I'm surprised it wasn't Clough as it usually is.

Yes, he is a great manager but to say the best to grace football is totally mad.  The people on FF need to do their homework.

Shankly, Paisley and Clough IMO are great managers and the best that have graced the world of football.

To me a great manager is someone who has a nice personality and not just great managerial attributes, which is why I'll never regard Clough as one of the best managers to grace football. His football knowledge and approach to the game, both in terms of desire and tactical nous are unquestionable, but personality wise he was a horrid person, Paisley all the way for me. Shankly laid the foundations and Paisley built on top of them. Bob not only had knowledge and tactical nous of the beautiful game, his humble and polite personality made the beautiful game that much more special. Of course he was tough when he needed to be, but there is no greater manager than Uncle Bob Paisley.

fergusons been with the same club for 20 years which is worth something, hes also been successful. dont get me wrong, i wouldnt pick alex but in todays mtv generation most people cant think that far back.

and can anyone honestly say that rafa would spend 20 years at liverpool? 10? even 5 for sure?

Rafa says he would like to stay for twenty years at Liverpool, but I can't see it myself, the day when a manager stays as long as Ferguson or either Wenger are pretty much a thing of the past and Ferguson's lucky he's been able to get in the top four of the Premiership over the past few years and win the FA Cup and Carling Cup otherwise he might well of been out of a job.

I still think he should have retired when he said he was going to. he wanted this landmark i think. dunno who they will get next but its big shoes to fill.

arsene wont sign a contract extension where he is so he wont be at the arsenal much longer either and im happier each day rafa stays with us

Yeah Ferguson is a great manager (it hurts to say it) but he won't stand upto the likes of Clough, Bob and Shanks, it winds me up when Joe Fagan doesn't get mentioned cos the guy was an amazing manager :(
