On a possible replacement for Insua, apparently Mourinho at Real Madrid is interested in Evra. That would leave Heinze out of favour. He is reportedly past his best, but I would still have him at Anfield. That could also help make Mascherano's mind up about his future.

Heinze doesnt even play for Madrid anymore... We could still ring them about it though, dont see the harm in that

It's the Figeroa fella from Wigan, and he's a good player.

Good shout... Despite him being about 57, i wouldnt mind having him here for next season..
Theres other good options who wouldnt cost much as well...

-Abidal (Barcelona) : Barce just signed a leftback and they already have Maxwell.. He missed most of last season due to injury.. given his age and that fact that he will probably be no more than a squad player for them next season then i see no reason why they wouldnt be willing to sell for cheap..

-Antonio Lopez (At.Madrid) : I've always liked him... If we're going to spend 7mill or so to get a fullback then we can do much worse than spend them on this guy...

-Salcido (PSV) : Another very good fullback who is good at both ends of the pitch... a maximum of 7 or so mill again should do it i would think..

-Vargas (Fiorentina) : He's more an attacking wingback than a traditional fullback... With Insua signing for them theres a chance they might want to cash in on him...

-Bruno (Valencia) : Theyr selling everyone down there... A very good player player and if we can get him on the cheap then it would be a good deal..

The thing is, it's hard to get a good leftback from the premierleague without overpaying.. Figueroa and Konchesky seem the two most likely candidates but at the quoted fees i think we could get better players from abroad... Would be easier finding  quality leftback in Italy or Spain ...

FSC showed the LFC v Lyon match today and I put myself through watching it (the match were Babel scores late and Lyon scores even later)  And Cissoko was very impressive.

I won't celebrate Rafa going........ but I will be over the moon if Dalglish comes in. League within 2 years if he gets the job, AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

Heinze didn't look that good against Germany at the World Cup and is too old anyway.

Wouldn't go for Heinze, was worth the interest when at the mancs just to make fergie spew whiskey. But he's 32, we could do with a first choice LB in his mid 20s that could solve that longstanding problem for more than a couple of seasons if he solves it at all. Salcido is 30, Figueroa is borderline at 27 and may well cost more than we'd like.

I'd rather Woy picked out a relative unknown and it turned out to be a gem, especially given our budget is not likely to accommodate premium price players in all the positions we need to fill. We can't afford to start spending £5m+ on full-backs, AND expect to sign top midfielders/wingers, AND top strikers. A couple of full-backs in the price bracket and ability bracket of Arbeloa would do nicely
Never buy from PC World, product quality is poor and their 'customer service' is even poorer

I agree that we dont want to go splashing too much money around on a full back, so that is what makes me think a couple of million for Konchesky might be the best option. He is not the most glamorous signing but can do a dependable job - a bit like Finnan did (a player we could get back on a free haha)

Konchesky's a decent full back and has been for years. I watched him a fair few times when he was at Charlton, and he was always good then. He's absolutely all left foot which is no bad thing, and he knocks a lovely ball as well as being not completely untasty at free kicks also. He's made the fringes of the England team a couple of times, and although he's obviously not in Ashley Cole's class is a better player currently IMHO than Wayne Bridge. He's solid defensively without being an absolute World beater, and the same going forward.

The comparison with Finnan (although they play on opposite sides obviously) is a fair one. He isn't the quickest but isn't the slowest either, and would be in the top five performers for the team most weeks, while never quite being man of the match. He's a good pro who would walk to Anfield to play for us and to play under his old manager.

For me Figeroa has that bit more top quality about him, but Konchesky is a good performer. He is a better full back than Insua currently is as well, in my opinion obviously.
