in the article his agent says he hopes liverpool dont do their usual of telling him late in pre season to find another club, i reckon the likes of hodgson and kenny didnt see him as part of their plans, i think it will be different with rodgers, aquilani is exactly the type of player rodgers is looking for.

I dont see him staying after what has happened the previous few seasons.

I bet there's alot more to it than football.

He could definitely do a job but he will more than likely do the same as the last couple of seasons and get back off to Italy with the first offer that comes along.

His agent has been saying the same things over and over again - anyone with any sense knows exactly where Aquilani wants to be - Italy. This circus with him has gone on too long - just let him go and free up those massive wages on someone worthwhile and someone who won't break down if he sneezes.

He has been the worst transfer in Liverpools recent history.

i hope he stays, it wouldnt be the first time in our history a player had a chequered start to his anfield career but went on to great things, we signed terry mcdermott after his performance against us in the 74 cup final and he spent the next 3 years mostly in the reserves, just when it looked like he was on the verge of leaving he got a chance in the 77 season and next minute he was scoring goals of the season in F.A cup semi finals (against everton no less), hat tricks in european super cup finals (against kevin keegans hamburg) and goals in the european cup final. over the next few years he was graeme souness`s partner in the best midfield ever to play in english football culminating in him winning PFA player of the year in 1980. 3 years after nearly leaving the club he was regarded as the best player in the country.

Over the last 2 seasons Aquilani (59) has made more appearances than Gerrard (49) and Agger (54), and only 5 less than Glen Johnson (64).

I’m guessing he has been sent out on loan the past 2 season due to a combination of reasons. Nether Hodgson or Dalglish saw him as an important part of the first team, the club and both managers were reluctant to keep a squad player on 80K a week, the club were reluctant to pay up to a further 3 million due based on the number of appearances, Aquilani didn’t want to be a squad player at a club not in the Champions League and not competing for trophies.

I reckon if Rodgers tells Aqua that he sees him as a first team player he would happily stay next season.

I cant see him staying. Were apparantly building for the future. For aqualani to stay at Liverpool he'd have to sign a new contract. A contract that sees him take a pay cut. Its not going to happen

even if we dont sign anyone -

                                                             reina

johnson                              skrtel                       agger                      enrique

                                                            lucas

                                        gerrard                     aquilani

                    sterling / bellamy             carroll              suarez

to be fair that`s a hell of a side on paper, barcelona and man city want our centre halves, lucas was the best defensive midfielder in the country before his injury and every club on the planet wants luis suarez.
a lot went wrong last season (both off the pitch and on it) including injuries and suspensions, especially in midfield, for a lot of the season we had the likes of spearing / shelvey / adam etc in our engine room.
with lucas back, gerrard coming into form and andy carroll improving i can deffo see us surprising a few people this season.

not really 7th-8th place all over again....With his best season ever Lucas is still a player returning from a brutal injury into a position which requires ruthless and agressive play ,we should look for a top player in his position and a creative midfielder which can insert some flavour to our attacking game. Forget about Aqua man he isn't staying he doesn't want to play in England end off...We are desperate for a surprise signings ,new names ,not Kalu type players.

Heard Aquilani hasn’t joined the squad yet because he was getting married in Rome yesterday.

I think even Italy look a more potent threat when you add the invention of Aquilani's passing ,I think Rodgers could just give Alberto his credibility back.

It says a lot that after all this time despite three Liverpool managers not fancying him, despite twice failing to secure a permanent deal even at a knockdown price, people are still having to rely on old clips of him playing Portsmouth, Slovenia and other illustrious opponents to justify their belief that he has a future at Liverpool, that the Italian midfield is poorer for his absence etc.. Forget that he never impressed Rafa, Roy, Kenny, the Italy manager, the Juve and Milan managers/every manager of every other club that refuses to take the risk on him, he's still a top player because he showed some classy touches against Portsmouth a few years ago?  ???

Regardless of what other circumstances have made  managers drop him like the proverbial hot stone ,I still believe his talent whether its framed in
a You tube montage or whether you've seen first hand from the Kop is there for all to see . Brendan Rodgers is a new manager with fresh ideas ,so all I'm
saying is this could be the very last straw for a player who has perplexed many .

So ovious to all is his talent that Milan and Juve weren't prepared to stump up the few million quid it would've taken to secure his services on a long-term basis. Either they and every other club that had the chance to sign him are incredibly stupid, or he's perhaps not as good as some people believe him to be.

He played quite a few games at Milan and Juve, but they didn't want to pay more than a couple million pounds for him because they don't really want to pay a couple million pounds for any player that isn't what they consider world class.  You have to take into consideration that both Juve and Milan actually wanted him in the first place, and started almost every game at Juve, then played in a good amount of games at Milan, in CL as well for both clubs, and has gotten a few games for Italy despite their strange in midfield.

I think his passing game could fit right in here, we'll see what kind of chance he's given and go from there.
