That's it right now.  We'll see who is brought in to strengthen the defense - Left back especially.

Rules -

Only confirmed signings please, no speculation.

Strongest XI as a team, not strongest XI individuals (no accommodating players out of position).

                      Reina

Kelly     Carragher     Agger     Johnson

                      Lucas
           Gerrard           Meireles

Kuyt                                        Suarez
                     Carroll

Subs: Jones, Skrtel, Aurelio, Henderson, Cole, Rodriguez, Aquilani/Spearing.

I think this works well both home and away. 4-3-3 at home (Kuyt and Suarez pushing up), 4-5-1 away.

Revised -

                     Reina

Kelly     Carragher     Agger     Johnson

                     Lucas
          Gerrard           Adam

Kuyt                                        Suarez
                    Carroll

I opted for dropping Meireles instead of Lucas. Not 100% sure why, just felt and looked right.  :glare:

Reina

Kelly     Carragher     Agger     Johnson

Kuyt       Gerrard       Adam     Downing

                             Suarez
                    Carroll

Subs: Lucas, Skrtel, Meireles, Aquilani, Henderson, Cole

This is it as of now except I see a 4-3-3 with Kuyt being moved up as the 3rd striker and Gerrard pushing out to the right.

Kuyt was extremely ineffective as a winger, but extremely effective as a striker.  I know that means Gerrard out of position but he is very good on the right.

Our "best" lineups seems to be a lot more balanced this year. :)

surprised at the number of people leaving out both Meireles and Aqua especially considering the discussions in the Meireles thread itself
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing

Really think if one or the other stays they have to come to terms with not being first choice unless we're hit with injuries.  I'm almost positive Adam and Lucas will be almost automatic in the lineup with Stevie maybe being rested more than ever, I don't know if his groin will hold up playing as much as he used to.

I think it might be worth dividing the players based on their relative importance to the side...

Definite Starters:

Reina
Carragher
G.Johnson
Lucas
Gerrard
Suarez

Probable Starters:

Agger
Adam
Downing
Carroll

Rotation Players:

Skrtel
Kelly
Aquilani
Maxi
Kuyt

Everyone else is either a backup player or too young to be expected to play a significant role... Depending on the leftback situation, Flanagan might find himself on a bench role or even loaned out...

Which leaves the starting leftback spot missing regardless of the setup...

Personally I'd have Meireles in there ahead of Adam, with Kuyt, Carroll and Downing rotating depending on form or even opposition...

I'm hoping Kenny plays with two strikers and looking at your listing there aCe it reminds me that after Suarez and Carroll and apart from an auxilliary Kuyt, quality wise our strike force is pretty thin.

Anybody think we should be on the lookout for another striker ?

A lot of people are thinking that.  I'm almost thinking we should give eggnogg a second chance based on his preseason form... but he's just been so bad.

Yes we do need a backup striker, maybe a young striker who is good enough to be a rotation player in Ace's list.

Looks like Aly Cissokho is coming so we have the left back sorted

Ngog's got skills and he's a nice lad. Thats his downfall (imo), way too nice. Never seems to sweat, never looks p'issed off, always looks as though he's playing in a friendly.
