I started my education in the early 1950's .Post war
Britain was fairly grim  , rationing was still in place ,for example most
people bought their clothing from the local army and navy store , up until
the age of  eight I went to school dressed as a Japanese Admiral !! This
really :censored: of my teacher
cause I outranked him, he was only a captain !!!!!!
The nit nurse used to come round once a month to examine our hair , one by
one we stepped forward and she pulled  our heads into her bosom all starched
and smelling of disinfectant , for years I thought dettol was a perfume.I
loved it and could easily have stood in her medicinal embrace all day
long. All to soon however she would declare me fit and I would return to my
seat whilst the likes of poor little Charlie "the firebug" Fowler who always
had nits was seperated from the rest of us and made to stand in the corner ,
6 years old ,his red rimmed eyes watering as he cast furtive glances in our
direction whilst a large green snot bubble grew slowly  from his
nose.Although I too was only 6 I knew this wasn't justice and besides
Charlie and I where friends ,like me he was also a member of the Imperial
Japanese Navy .Although  he was only a petty officer we all admred the
bullet holes across the back and down one side of his jacket.
Charlie and I once set fire to a church, hence his nick name but thats
another story and I might have told you all of this before ?

Christ Woof I dont wont to point out the obvious........ but the 1950's b.loody hell mate, I'm surprised you can even remember that far back. :D  (No offence)

My memories arent really that great to tell, apart from the fact I spent the majority of my time standing outside the Headmasters office on detention. :(  I still say to this day they picked on me   and it had nothing to do with the fact I was a cheeky little fecker.

I remember when I was in my last year of school in 2005, my mate opened an umbrella in class while someone was presenting something and the teacher didnt even notice that he opened an umbrella.

I was usually in a small class because I did my Lebanese Bacc degree and I was in an American School here in Beirut, so all of the other students did either high school degree or International Bacc. It was much better being in a class of 8 or 12, it was really fun!!! coupled with all these political assasination that happened during these years we had alot of holidays.

I started my education in 1993 (Grade 1)

We used to beek off a bit!

I went to a school I had to get 2 buses...One from Finaghy..to City Centre and one from City Centre to our school... It was in the castlereagh hills - and they call it Lagan College - such a use that was to me and has been now !!! (though i'm sure it is a good school) :)

Anyway - this one day that we beeked off .. the IRA decided to blow up Belfast !! - my friend John, felt the force of the blast .. they blew the Europa to bits, we were three streets away.. poor John got a big bit of glass in his head and an other in his eye ...Oh and and an almighty claim !!...I got Feck all ... :censored: outta luck mate!

John had his head stiched .. I got mine beat for beekin off by ma da ..

When we went back to school though, nothing was said, so - the moral of the story is .....

IF YOUR GONNA BEEK OFF / TRUENT/ - Make sure you beek in Belfast!!!!!!

The teacher kept telling us that the hot air balloon blew up.

Yes .. we had a smelly pupil called Joanne, every time a dog came near her .. she :censored:.d her pants

we used to love sports day in the school we could get a big audience ... and show Joanne for her true colours ... usually brown or yellow - as long as you brought a dog ..  the true colours really did flow ...

Never mind the egg and spoon - or the two legged race .. we had Joanne !!!   :O

Strange but I can't really think of anything that stands out about me schooling..... From '76 to '81 I was there and while it wasn't bad, it wasn't great either. I firmly believe that the real learning started as soon as I left, school is such a comfort zone and you don't realise you're born until you have to work and earn dosh!!!

I used to get a train from Greenisland to Carrickfergus where i attended school (Carrickfergus college.) And there used to be a load of lads from a Catholic school in Larne on the same train, so it used to end up a free for all until the peelers stepped in and all the fun was over.

Ahh  school........what do i remember most?

Well.......

"Naughty boys in nasty schools
Headmasters breaking all the rules
Having fun and playing fools
Smashing up the woodwork tools
All the teachers in the pub
Passing round the ready-rub
Trying not to think of when
The lunch-time bell will ring again.

Oh what fun we had
But, did it really turn out bad
All I learnt at school
Was how to bend not break the rules
Oh what fun we had
But at the time it seemed so bad
Trying different ways
To make a difference to the days.

Headmasters had enough to-day
All the kids have gone away
Gone to fight with next-doors school
Every term, that is the rule
Sits alone and bends his cane
Same old backsides again
All the small ones tell tall tales
Walking home and squashing snails.

Oh what fun we had
But, did it really turn out bad
All I learnt at school
Was how to bend not break the rules
Oh what fun we had
But at the time it seemed so bad
Trying different ways
To make a difference to the days.

Lots of girls and lots of boys
Lots of smells and lots of noise
Playing football in the park
Kicking pushbikes after dark
Baggy trousers, dirty shirt
Pulling hair and eating dirt
Teacher comes to break it up
Back of the ead with a plastic cup.

Oh what fun we had
But, did it really turn out bad
All I learnt at school
Was how to bend not break the rules
Oh what fun we had
But at the time it seemed so bad
Trying different ways
To make a difference to the days.

Baggy trousers, baggy trousers, baggy trousers
Baggy trousers, baggy trousers, baggy trousers"

:D    ill put my own personal reflections up when the FOG infront of my eyes has lifted and my head stops chiming - At least until ive had me 4th Brew of the day and had a good cough!  :nod

Quill pens, and having my left arm tied up behind my back by a sadistic school teacher to encourage me to use my right hand to write with. It didn't work as I am still left handed but I had to put up with it for over 6 months.
