this topic was raised in another thread, so instead of derailing another thread, I think comments best posted here.

It's sh.it. I am at this moment booking flights for my wife and 3 kids out of Kuala Lumpur and you know what?, I can't afford this expense right now, but its very bad.

you can't sleep because you are choking on smoke and ash. not just me, but millions of us..

for those that don't know, this is an annual issue for us, but this year, its the worst I have experienced since 2003.

There is this thing called the air pollution index. below 50 is consider ok, anything above is considered not good.

above 300 is consider very hazardous.

Singapore hit around 400-500 last week, Indonesia told them to grow up and stop whinging like a little baby.

parts of Malaysia is now hitting 700+.  This is lethal in my opinion

My kids were stuck inside all day with the doors and windows closed and we don't have aircon outside the bedrooms so you can imagine its been very uncomfortable considering the heat as well.

Fortunately the wind has changed direction and blown it away from us the last couple of days but it came back this afternoon, you could se it rolling in over the sea, just like a fog.

A fog is bearable but its like standing beside a wet garden bonfire breathing in the smell and the fumes, that's the worst bit. Most people are using surgical face masks as filters, I prefer to use the traditional beer goggles which filter out all known germs!

Keep smiling Babu mate!  :buttrock

Reg, I was inside an office building today in KL. I had a meeting on the 15th floor. I walked out of the elevator and could not see the door to the office 15 m away.

this has got to stop.

in 2003 I had no kids and wasn't too worried about myself 'YOLO', but now.... I wanna kill someone

In the history of questions, that's a great question.

The best ever though is still "Why do Liverpool have a Flamingo on their badge"

(You mean it's not a flamingo?) ???

:D

From what I gather the haze is due to forest fires burning in parts of Indonesia to clear the ground for palm oil plantations. Been going on for years apparently. Either that or Reg and his mates smoked a fat one  :)

always happens at this time of the year... but this is the worst in decades... usually the PSI index is 100-150 the most with haze... this year it was 400+...

I'm at KLIA right this very minute, looking out the window and it just reminds me of a gloomy day in London.

It didn't get light here until 7:00 am which I thought was weird but yes I suppose it does look rather hazy/foggy out there.
