I've played most football franchises since the advent of the PS2 and the Xbox.
ProEvo, Winning Eleven and Fifa.
Though I'll admit, ProEvo in past years used to be better than FIFA, I'll only say that, it was because of its gameplay.
Past editions of FIFA were too rigid. Its gameplay was too mechanical, whereas ProEvo had more realistic simulations. Plus, FIFA had this horrid way of taking free-kicks and corners. While the free-kick one was okay I guess, because it helped you aim better, it took awhile getting used to how the power-bar worked. In ProEvo, all you had to do was move your player, kick, and watch the ball go in.
But FIFA 06 changed all that. Gone were those free-kick bars. And the gameplay had considerably improved. It was, in my opinion, a huge step forward in the FIFA Franchise and finally, they had a game that was capable of challenging ProEvo's. Gameplay-wise.
Plus FIFA had more leagues than ProEvo, official kits, real-player's names, more stadiums, better commentators, (although I preferred John Motson and Ally McCoid (sp) to Clive Tydsley and Andy Gray) and that little thing where they had a team of former greats.. which I thought was really cool.
FIFA this time, was a better all-around game than ProEvo.

.. though it wouldnt hurt if FIFA also took up that thing where you can change and edit your own formations.. Some of us get tired of the same old 4-4-2 and what not every other game.
