Merry Christmas! And nice to read you again

It's absolutely true that there are problems everywhere. There are two kinds of emigration, the one which reason is the need to eat, from the 3rd world to the 1st one, and the one that seeks a better life.

Many English are living in Spain seeking a more benevolent weather for their health, for instance. I knew last day an english man about 50 years old. I was watching while taking a coffee a Portsmouth - Arsenal, and couldn't help to say yes! (in english) when pompey scored, it was a good goal. He asked me if I liked football, I told him I'm a RS ticket holder and a Liverpool fan. He turned out to be a Manc, but since he was polite I chose not to continue the conversation that way. I asked him how come he had a decent Spanish, and wether he was looking a better weather. Nah, he said, just running away from my Missus :D

The English keep being english all their lifes, no matter where they are. Meaning they'll find places where to eat their breakfasts, they'll walk whatever is needed to get The Guardian or The Times and to be updated, and they seem to be remember where are they from always. Meaning that it doesn't seem they were tired of their country, just spending their latter years of life in a cheaper-better weather country.

Spain and specifically the Basque country region have been emigrants the last 2 or 3 centuries. If there are many Basque surnames in the Argentinian squad is because of this. Now people around the world come to Spain in order to eat, just as we did.

Africans are not problematic here in Spain, but there are quite a lot ex guerrilla men from eastern countries, like Romania or Kosovars that are using weapons to steal and that's creating problems.

The natural reaction to that is to say Spain is not safe any more and some xenophobia. IMO this people with guns must be expelled from the country with no exceptions, but it's a mistake to consider the whole emigrants to be the problem.

Emigration to me, brings some good things, like being able to maintain the jubilation money help (Here we all pay part of the month's salary to the State so that when you get older you receive money according to what you have worked. The problem was that Spain was older and older, and the people had few children so to maintain the whole thing you must bring work power from abroad). Another good thing about the emigration is the nice mixture of cultures.

And it has some extra troubles like bringing criminals. I say just remove the bad part of emigration, but not consider it a bad thing as a whole.

Some will know that my lovely missus is Kiwi so it wasn't perhaps such a massive step for us, particularly as the two kids have dual passports the lucky little feckers.
To be honest, many of the reasons people give for leaving the UK didn't really apply to me that much. I didn't hate my homeland, I didn't think the country was finished, it just seemed like the right move at the time. There's problems in the Uk but there's problems anywhere, that's the way it is.

Anyways a quick update. We came over via USA where we stayed for a couple of weeks in Minnesota. Lots of overwieght people, fantastic fast food, pretty cold and everybody quite offputtingly friendly. Beautiful but could no more live there than fly in the air (sorry AB). Very cheap trainers though. I bought four pairs (I like the flat soled ones, you know sort of vintage old school a bit like Vans I guess) for $114. I reckon they would have been a bullseye apiece in the UK no danger.

Arrived NZ Saturday morning and even though we have had a freak rainstorm for a couple of days, it's still the Summer and let me tell you Crimbo does not belong in the middle of the fecking Summer. Any Aussies or Yanks or Kiwis who tell you it's better to have prawns on the beach for crimbo dinner need a swift kick in the goolies and another on the way down. It's b0ll0cks.

In the New Year, I'm going to try and get a job and I'm qualified to do precisely feck all so that should be interesting. In the meantime I'm enjoying the micky mouseness of the telly, and the naff adverts, "grab yer cozzie, and come to Aussie" (freedom air). I don't know if anybodies in the least bit interested but there's probably never been an emigration thread on here so here it is. I'll update on my progress now and then and please ask away if you've got anyy queries. I might as well talk about this as I haven't sen a football kicked in anger for about three weeks.

16% is that all ! ?

I'm on a temporay visa myself in Oz from the UK, and exactly as you've said apart from the cheap povo  :D  adverts and Christmas in the summer, Oh and the American English they speak I'm glad I opted the move (dont get me wrong I'm proud to be English and love my homeland). But my life would of been full of what ifs, if I never had of made the move. Obviously I do miss the people, my family the long dark nights and the cold funnily enough, but the way of life over here on the main land and the scenery and beaches are nothing short of beautiful. I think more of us (Brits) should emmigrate over here and takeover  :D

The same can be said for any country really to be honest with you. When I was in Croatia people felt like that and moved out, and most of them [including me] miss it and want to go back now. It's like "You don't really appreciate it until it's gone" type of thing.

People here in the US [whether they be Americans or not] want to go elsewhere.

There's fat people everywhere [sorry Lando]
:D

Btw, Marry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family Mick.

Have a good 'un.

made me choke on me cornflakes Mick that mate, nice one. Just to clarify, I'm not Homesick at all, I've only been here for one week. Jeez I'd be giving a whole new definition to winging pom if I started moaning already. I'm merely revelling in the differences. I've been here a number of times before, it's beautiful and I'm sure it'll all be for the good.

Woofa asked "why Minnesota?", well we went to the wife's brothers wedding in Minneapolis. Very nice.

Welcome back Big Mick!  Just back from Minnesota way myself (my better half's family lives in Northern Wisconsin) and you aren't kidding about the fat people.  Had one particularly harrowing experience at a McDonald's...thought the lard a.rse in the line behind me was gonna eat me if they didn't get her order in soon. :D

Now that your living in the land of the Kiwis you'll be able to duplicate Pee Wee's trick and watch Liverpool matches hours before the rest of us (3PM Saturdays coming earlier your way and all).  Just be gentlemanly about it and keep the result to yourself until we've all seen the match, hmmm? :D
