Well, that was interesting: the penalty misses and upright pinball on the goal, that is--the rest was too disjointed to be truly captivating.  Nonetheless, I thought Spain deserved to go through and we have the Germany-Spain Euro 08 Final rematch many of us were hoping for on this side of the bracket.  I expect Germany to do exactly what Paraguay did--get in the Spaniards' faces and make it hard for them to play--but with the added threat of lethal attacking potential.  It shall make for intriguing viewing. :nod

obviously Spain might win, but I think your comment is rubbish.

Spain have not been pacing themselves, winning games with ease and just not bothering to step up a gear.

If Paraguay had scored the penalty then Spain might be out.

1 month ago I'd have put my money on Spain but there is no reason to think Spain will win.

Niall, I think most of your comments are rubbish mate.

But to humour you, I'm not suggesting Spain are holding back and pacing themselves.  I'm suggesting they haven't hit anywhere near top form yet and Germany clearly have.  It's still possible that Germany have peaked too soon and Spain might just hit top gear at the right time.

As for your comment 'there is no reason to think Spain will win'.  I can think of plenty.

My problem with the Spanish? Lying, cheating and simulation is my problem with the Spanish.

If the Spain vs Paraguay match was a Chelsea vs Lyon match and the Chelsea players dived about like floppy fish and circled the referee then I am sure you would be singing from the same hymn book that I am.

I want to Spain to lose because for all their quality and talent, they always resort to dishonesty, simulation and cheating. For that reason I hope Paraguay stuff them and send them packing.

I'm sure we both agree that they've been poor in their 5 games, what will change in a few days?

If the Spanish manager drops Torres, and plays Fabregas off a more central Villa they might very well do it, but they have to be substantial underdogs.

I am not saying Spain cannot win, i just don't think there is an argument for sayiing they will win.

as for the fact that you think most of what I post is rubbish (ignoring that most of it, not all , comes out I said) really saddens me

I'm glad Argentina went out, I was pretty sure they would struggle against a good side and they certainly did.  They need a new manager, Maradona isn't the way forward for you guys Zara, he isn't a good manager they just played bad teams.  As for Spain.. I can't believe how awful Torres has been his confidnce is absolutely shot.

I started off cheering for Spain to win as I adore the football they've been playing the last few years - but they have been poor.

I now hope the germans win as they have been the most attacking side.

I live 15 minutes away from Germany I go there atleast 3 times a week, its a beautiful country, the people are great, its a great country to live in and even tho my son is half dutch and Im married to a cloggy I want Germany to win.

Will you celebrate if Holland win?  :p

Bav yesterday when Holland won you couldnt hear a sound around here, nothing it was dead, I went to the chippy (snack bar) in Dutch there was people there that had obviously watched the match what a shower of boring b@stards seriously you would think they had just come back from a funeral.

As I said I go to Germany about 3 times a week and its the most beautiful country Ive ever been to, the same goes for the people they would do anything for you. And i hope they win the WC that team has played the best through the whole compition if we are honest.

If Holland win Ill be happy for my son but even my husband wants germany to win and hes dutch.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

the dutch are probably only matched by the english for travelling to tournaments anywhere in the world. They do the whole "orange thing" and seem fun.

Well, I thought that was a very even game and Spain will breath a deep sigh of relief. Paraguay shut them off for 90% of the game, worked harder than any team in the competition, but were incisively picked off near the end when the game had become stretched. Even then, Santa Cruz missed a great chance to equalise. On luck: The disallowed goal wasn't so clearcut, IMO, and might have given on another day. Both pens were fair enough and while Spain should have had another after Alonso's missed retake, Cardozo's before that should have been retaken due to infirngement into the box so I think on the whole it more or less evened out.

john craig wrote:Spain deserved that win.  Awful refereeing.  The Paraguayan should have been sent off for the foul on Villa for the pen, then Xabi's pen should never have had to be retaken, then on the rebound from Xabi's miss Fabregas got taken out for a clear pen not given.  Justice in the end even though Spain didn't play that well.

The ref was correct when he made xabi retake the pen. If anything cardozo's pen should have been retaken as well. The only real mistake the ref made was not giving another penalty to fabregas.

I dont know why spain keeps playing torres. It pushes their best striker villa out left where he isnt as good, to make space for torres that clearly is way out of form. With some changes to their starting lineup spain should do much better against Germany.

I'm hoping for uruguay vs spain in the final.
