Sets up a more interesting game against Germany i think , battle in the middle of the park is gonna be immense. and i cant wait. as for the player or the tournament so far even though i love Villa i think that Schwienstiger just shades it for me oy of the two of them so far, What a performance today by him and hes having a great world cup. i actualy think he plays better without Ballack in the side, he has stepped up and is pulling the strings ,briliant player, Iniesta is Iniesta just wonderful to watch, and its gonna be tough to call on wed , but im going with Spain . me heart and me head says they will just shade it, They havnt put in a wonderful display yet ,they have had to work at winning but  im hoping that comes in this game .

Anyone see Pepe in the celebrations i was laughing my head off ,

Yep, Schweinsteiger's controlled the midfield for Germany. If memory serves me right, he used to be a winger, which probably explains that dribble he made to set up the third goal. Always seems to be in the right position in defence and attack, rarely ever gets caught out. Top quality player. How we could do with a player like him. Ozil as well has been a revelation. I had honestly never seen the guy before the tournament; thought he might have been that other German player who moved to Betis or Seville, but whose name escapes me. Bayernm usually snap up the best Germans so I expect they'll make a bid after the world cup, Man City will no doubt be sniffing too.

I think Spain will need to be more aware in defence if they're going to make the final. They were vulnerable to the counter against the Swiss, against Chile for the first 30 min's, and again today (for the disallowed goal, the Valdes shot, the Santa Cruz chance). Ozil and co eat up any free space.

Hadn't seen any of Ozil before this tournament either.

I did read an article on him when Diego was sold to Juve claiming that now that he was out of Diego's shadow he'd start showing what he can do in his preferred position playing off the striker.  He certainly looks the business.

Schweinsteiger I remember playing in the German U21 team several years back and he looked the business as a winger.  I'm sure Germany drafted him into the full squad later that summer and he got a few appearances - must have been Euro 2004.  This looks to be his best position though, he's a lot more filled out physically than he was then,

Iniesta, OMG where to begin?  I don't even know how this kid can even make it into his own house.  Surely the steps would send him back to the floor wouldn't they?  Absolute joke of a player.

I won't celebrate Rafa going........ but I will be over the moon if Dalglish comes in. League within 2 years if he gets the job, AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

He played as a winger in the 2006 WC and at euro 2008. Its only recently he has been moved to central midfield in bayern.

I think that early German goal knocked the stuffing out of Argentina, and their defence looked like it was England in disguise for the 2nd and 3rd goals. Well bye bye my prediction, the winners can't have off days and that's exactly what Argentina had

Spain struggled past Paraguay, could have gone either way.

So how about a repeat of 1974 instead of 1978 :

Final : (West) Germany 2-1 Holland
3PP : Poland (Spain) 1-0 Brazil (Uruguay)

Same number of countries represented from South America and Europe, same final but different teams in 3rd and 4th.

Definitely don't want Uruguay to reach the final, that would be poor for football with the way they cheated. Plenty of people would do it, usually see it in club football, but it is arguably the worst act of cheating you can commit - stopping a definite goal with your hand(s). Marginally ahead of getting away with handling it into the net which quite often gets spotted

I'm really sorry for insulting seaofred yesterday, when I read his prejudices about my country, and mixed with beers and euphoria, the dissapointments of 2006,2002,1998,1994,1990,1986 and the first WC I remember 1982 went out.

All I want to tell him is that both his and my country are old and respectable countries. And in old and big countries you have good people and bad people. We have liars, and cheaters no doubt, and you have Terries. We have good people, and so you have.

On the game, it was a rollercoaster of emotions, and I was too drunk to do a serious analysis, I'm in La Rioja right now on holidays and the wine ran free.

I reckon our game wasn't too good, but we're not afraid of Germany, and I think they respect us too.

BTW Casillas thanked Reina publicly because Reina told him where Cardozo was going to shoot, as he shot two penalties in a Liverpool-Benfica game in the same spot!!
