Euro qualifiers - england post mortem here

International Football/Football World Wide - General Discussion

England only have themselves to blame, the group was one of the weakest. Scotland have been brilliant (last nights result aside) to have Italy France and Ukraine in there group they were always massive underdogs, and they still have a chance.
Northern Ireland had Spain, Sweden and Denmark.
Wales - Germany Czech Republic, Rep. of Ireland and Slovakia. Both really difficult groups, and ones that the current England team (with this manager) would of bombed in big style.

So being honest we (England) have been p!ss poor, drawing with Macedonia at home and Israel away, the defeats in Russia and Croatia not good enough either, although they were always going to be the toughest games, to lose them both shows they are not good enough.
The mad thing is though, how many people are actually that ersed ? I would rather we qualified but am hardly upset about the fact that we probably wont.

It is not all mclarens fault, England should have qualified but are not the top class team the media convince the public that they are, the players just aren't that good.

Only Scotland and Northern Ireland have had decent performances although neither will probably qualify.

ROI and Wales are competing for worst team in Europe, very close at the moment.

I blame all the fat kids playing video games and the fact that people on this side of world put so little emphasis on ball control and more on "getting at them".

The reason why football in this part of the world is so poor is deeper than any manager (you can't blame every manager you ever have for never reaching a final on foreign soil or only winning one quarter final world cup match (cameroon) and probably no quarter final in Euro cup (can't remember one))

Manhattan has figured out McClaren's plan.

He is basically planning to start another war in the Balkans.

Hence Croatia will be expelled and England will take their place.

He told the BBC that he got the idea from EURO 92.

Northern Ireland could qualify. If we beat Denmark (home) then Spain (away) and Swedan beat Spain that should put us second in the group. I would really love to see this happen, but doubt they will. But I will be watching and praying and there will be some party in my house if they do!!!

Beckham (that supid "becks" terms to make him sound like my friend gets me angry) is a clown and always has been. Now the clown is playing charity games against celebrities and ex players and that is enough to convince mcclaren to pick him for a big international match.

SWP was poor against Russia but is still a decent player, he can run, beat a man, score from play  and should start. Crouch MUST start with Owen too.

I'd also put Barry in midfield with Gerrard.

Good luck England, I hope they qualify for championships as if there is nobody from this part of world (although Scotland have chance too) it won't have the same buzz.

Russia will defeat Israel and Andorra, I have no doubt about that.  But it is sad that England wont be in the finals.  I wish it was England that would go through instead of Croatia.

Do you believe recent rumors about Israel selling the match to Russia? About Roman Abramovich being involved?

I doubt if those rumors are true, but you never know with all the corruption in football these days.  But I believe that Russia should be able to beat Israel fairly.  Russia's level of football is a lot better than Israel's.

D- Germany and the Czech Republic
E- Croatia and Russia

I've read some quotes in MARCA that are supposedly from Gerrard, not sure if you have read something similar.

According to Marca Gerrard thinks that there should be a limit in the amount of foreigners in a team, something like 6 per team.

As much as I think he's right when he says so many foreigners doesn't help the local talent, I think that with the current available squad England had to qualify under any circunstance. Your league is a top league, and the players of the english squad are good enough for any league and very good players, they simply should have done better, and that's McLaren's fault.

I personally hope Israel is professional enough not to play a weakened team as they've announced they're gonna play. For me a major competition without England is not quite the same.
