England v greece - Mcclarens first game

International Football/Football World Wide - General Discussion

Postby RichardLFC1 » Mon Aug 14, 2006 5:40 pm

Firstly Englands First Friendly Since We crashed out to Portugal in Germany so there will be alot of wounds need patching up.

Secondly Mcclarens first England Game. McClaren who was in charge of boro would have never felt pressure like this before knowing he has the nations hopes lying on his shoulders and the eleven he picks. So this will be a real test for mcclarens patience.

Thirdly New Captain. Beckham came with a huge reputation and thats what possibly made sven chose him for the captaincy he was a big player and thats what sven thought he needed in his captain but for me Gerrard and Terry tick all the right captain boxes and im more than happy he has got it.

Greece who are a great playing side will be looking to win this as they must feel that englands team are very wounded. However England Will most definetly be hoping to make it up to the immense England fans who went out to Germany to support them so they will go out with all guns blazing.

My team

Robinson

Neville
Terry ©
Carragher / Ferdinand
Ash cole

Lennon
Hargraves
Lampard
Downing

Gerrard

Crouch

2-0 England Gerrard and Lennon

I think he'll play it cautiously in his first game:

                                                  Robinson

Neville                        Terry                             Ferdinand                            Cole

Lennon                     Gerrard                            Lampard                              Downing

                                   Defoe

                                                                Crouch

But I'd like to see:

                                                  Robinson

                 Carragher                      Terry                      Ferdinand

                                                Hargreaves

                             Gerrard                                  Lampard

           Lennon                                                                 Defoe

                                              Crouch

Just Curious how it might work.......

Really not sure whats the point of this so soon after the World Cup.
Dont agree with big Sam much but his rant about this fixture just at start of season is spot on
However hope to see a new era for England where form rather then rep rules the selection sheets

This has to be the most ridiculous time to play an international friendly. I hope no Liverpool players play

gerrard on the right? just more evidence that lampard will not be dropped under any circumstances.

Gerrards bossing the game. He's everywhere. This could be bad news for Pennant.

4-0 at half time! Not bad. :D They haven't looked more comfortable as a team than they have so far tonight, for God knows how long.
