I knew that Sterling would improve from last season but he might turn out to be a lot better than anyone would expect. I think he has the potential to even make our season, amazing talent.

give him  120k a week to (A) keep real madrid away and (b) to ensure when they do come that we get a new world record fee due to the fact he will be contracted till 2020.
if he has another good season then they will be sounding him out next summer and he will move the year after  :nod either way i doubt he will be in a red jersey by the time he's 23 despite what the club says.
:D  just stirring mostly, brendan has since come out and said he knows nothing about a new contract and he never compared him to messi  :oh:

Yeah agree with this... 120k for a 19 year old is too much... give him 70k or so and put a very high release clause...

I would rather put a fat bonus cheque and/or loyalty clause in his contract than to give him such a big one-off salary raise. He have a history of being big headed and ability going off track even before telling Brendan to be "steady". Let's hope he have grown to keep his feet on the ground

Sorry mate but that type of tactic only will aggravate the player.

Salary is not and should not be related to age. If you are as good as another player, who also is paid that level of compensation then it is right and fair to pay the going rate.

Regardless of the scale difference. If you work, you expect to be paid the same amount as a peer performing the same job as you. Sterling is no different.

£120K per week is not even at the top end of the salary scale in this league. The best are paid at least £200K per week, the next level down (good experienced players and young talented future stars) between £100 - £150K. That's reality.

If we do not compensate him in accordance with the norm of the league, he will go looking elsewhere. Another club will pay that amount and we lose the player.

You want to explain that to the government mate, the national minimum wage is structured due to a persons age.

Not sure how that is relevant?

Employers are bound by the national minimum wage to prevent underpayment of workers, it has nothing to do with appropriate compensation for a certain skill or job. If a worker of any age can perform a job that warrants a higher wage, then he will either get paid the going rate or go somewhere that will. The minimum wage is designed to prevent relatively unskilled workers from being exploited, i.e. slave labour.

Raheem Sterling is being offer a salary that is within the range he should expect in the industry he works in.

he should be getting decent money here but id be worried at the pace and scale of the increase. give him 120k now and if he has a stormer of a season then what ? 200k.
giving the lad a bump from 35k to 70k is good enough with a few performance related bonuses thrown in at the end of the season.

I wouldn't worry. The salary is valid for the term of his contract. Each time his salary goes up he would be signing a new contract extension.

If his salary goes up this year, he would be seeing an increase for at least another 3 years.

I would bet it will be around Christmas when they give it to him and with a 50 million buyout clause to scare the vultures away (which probably won't)

Already a £40-50m player. There's nobody better in Europe at his age in terms of ability and general football intelligence.
