Liverpool FC tonight announced they had agreed a fee with Aston Villa for the transfer of Stewart Downing.

Liverpool have now been granted permission to discuss personal terms with the player and arrange a medical.

At last that over...lets hope he is worth it

Bloody hell I thought i had a scoop then!! quick work Dundalk!

Still in two minds as I am about all of the signings so far... Of the three I believe Downing will make the biggest impact. He will quickly become a better player with us.

£20m?!

We need some width and we could do a LOT worse than Stuart Downing. Hope to God he shines for us. We're gonna have a few £20m (give or take a few quid) running around for us next season

I'm chuffed that we're spending tho, finally some investment!! Hope this isn't the last, that left back slot desperately needs filled

Which instincts SCS ? The ones that show how he consistently delivers quality balls into the box ? The instincts which suggest that he outperformed Young last season ?

A lot of the negative Downing gets is from his performances in an England shirt .

In the prem he has been a consistently high performer .

This is our best signing so far .

I think maybe a lot of the negativity stems from the rumors that we were linked with Mata who im sure most would have preferred. If he can do a good job for us then so be it. 20mil seems a bit steep for him though considering he is 27. He has maybe 3 years before his value starts declining so not much resale value in this one.
