Liverpool set to return with improved offer for Romeo Lavia. Southampton rejected ~£37m opening bid as they seek ~£50m package. High chance this deal gets done, although Chelsea retain firm interest. W/

Buy back clause which activates next season. I think they're sure they'll get at least £40m for him sooner or later so they want to try for more. Is this kid really worth that much though? He's only 19 and only played a few games.

I'm sure no one is more surprised than Lavia himself....

With all the attention on Saudi football now, Newcastle's owners must be thinking they're in the wrong place now and should've bought a club back home...

This guy from Belgium seems to be well connected to Lavia's camp as he's been quite reliable with updates. Sounds like it's edging closer.

But giving Al Hilal permission to speak to Kylian Mbappe does not mean that Mbappe wants to speak to Al Hilal? So far there has been no indication that Mbappe is interested in moving to Saudi Arabia at this stage of his career and does he still want to win the Champions League to be considered one of the true greats in World football and losing a year from the Champions League may not be worth the risk if money is not that important to him than his legacy.
Also if Mbappe does leave for 1 year, no Club could afford his wages on return to Europe so he would have to take a massive wage reduction to similar to what he is on now and just take that massive wage increase for 1 year at Al Hilal and run back to Europe a much richer man.
Also Al Hilal tried to sign Messi and are clearly in the market for the biggest names in football which leads me to the major talking point from a Liverpool perspective.
If Al Hilal fail to sign Mbappe would they then turn their attention to Liverpool and make a £150m+ bid for Salah and would FSG take the offer and get yet another big wage player off the books after what looks like.
Oxlade Chamberlain.
Naby Keita.
James Milner.
Roberto Firmino.
Arthur Melo's wages off after season loan.
And it also looks like both Fabinho and Henderson are next out of the door, so that’s 6 experienced players leaving Liverpool this season and if Salah goes then that’s more than £1 million in wages off the books weekly and maybe £50m to £60m off the wage bill this coming season, would that temptation for FSG be too much for them to then accept the bid and would PSG come in for Salah as replacement for Mbappe.
Salah is key to this Liverpool team and with both Henderson and Milner gone from this Liverpool team the Captains armband is up for grabs and if we look at the realistic players to take that armband with Alisson, Van Dijk, Robertson, Trent and Salah really the only players that should be considered and with most people thinking that it should be Van Dijk as captain with Trent has vice-captain with Alisson thrown in the mix, but would offering the captains armband to Salah make him stay to secure his legacy with Liverpool to break more Club records and to lift any future trophies won by Klopp and the boys make him stay and not the £500k to £750k tax free wages per week at Al Hilal.

I hope PSG go to town on Mbappe and do him for breach of contract tbh if he has agreed terms with Madrid. Big problem for them though as he will refuse that move to Saudi. They are saying he is not sitting his contract out so could end up in the prem on loan if he insists on blocking any transfer other than one to Madrid.

We have shifted a serious chunk of wage off the bill with the ones who's deals have expired but anyone who is still contracted will stay on the books till that expires. Even if they are sold it stays on the books.

If they are offered 150 for Mo they would take it in a heartbeat. Problem for us is no one looks close to replicating his contribution to the team and results. Really don't think Mo would agree to it this season anyway.

yeah no, Mo is not moving until next summer at the earliest. The Saudis may have the cash but they are newborns when it comes to the footballing world and have little understanding of value. Even if Mo declines this season they would not know better anyways and stump up some serious money.

From the express

Liverpool are reportedly in talks to sign Kylian Mbappe on loan after Paris Saint-Germain were understood to have been left fuming by the star's decision to refuse talks with Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal. The 24-year-old appears to be on his way through the Parc des Princes exit after telling club chiefs he has no intention to extend his contract beyond next summer

*************

Probably cr@p but if true, do we really want him on a short term basis?

Personally I wouldn't like to see him come in under those circumstances. A loan deal would be disruptive for our squad imo as he isn't committed to us. It would also mean taking his circus on board which we could do without.

I don't think any Liverpool fans take anything to do with us and him seriously. FSG is not going to pay a big loan fee and take on his wage. He could very well end up in the premier league but it wont be with us.

Fantastic player but over priced considering the baggage. When Real Madrid call a player greedy and only interested in money then you know it wouldn’t work for us. Even if he came to the PL for another club it would be short term.

He will end up at Chelsea or Arsenal for the season I reckon. Honestly wouldn't want him coming in here and lauding over everyone else for the season anyway. Madrid deserve greedy footers like him and I hope his demands bankrupt them over the next few years.

Getting a bit concerned now that season is going to be wrote off before it even starts due to squad limits. Lavia seems to be who we want but we can't get it over the line as we won't pay what they want so it's weeks of limbo. They have said what they want for him and we lowball, get knocked back and get ready to prepare another bid that still won't match what they want.

I know people say Ox and Keita weren't used so make no difference to numbers but that is complete rubbish. They were 2 big players brought in to play 1st team and when it wasn't working out we were told its quality on the bench. Now its just making up the numbers and folk think swapping them out with the likes of Clark and Co makes us stronger. The cups are one thing but even to progress in them you have to play strong teams at some point. Klopp will have a small squad to work with and he will flog it to bits till it breaks. Players who are 50% fit will get the nod over these young lads everyday.

Completely agree. We are Liverpool , you are either with us or without us .
Don't care how good any player may be I don't want someone who is here just to pass the time while they run down their contract with another club and then fk off to a club they've already decided they really want to join.

f*ck off Mbape we don't need you  :rasp

Looks like Southampton have rejected our 2nd bid for Lavia which was in the region of £41m. Looks like they're holding out for the £50m and times being wasted on both parts. He's played no minutes during this pre season so he's going to be nowhere near ready for the season.

He's 19, they signed him for about £10m 12 months ago, and he's played about 20 odd games since then. £50m is a bit of a ***** take TBH.
