Dominic Campbell @dom_campbell on twitter - seems to know his stuff, but take it as you will
Don't pay too much attention to the United rumours re Willian. Liverpool moving very quickly with this one and talks are advanced.
The club know that missing out on yet another big name is going to be counter productive to our transfer ambitions. So yeah, quick moving. It would be naive to think nobody is going to show interest. Tottenham and United could, at any moment, turn serious in their interest.
This is pretty much the last chance for the club. Not many other targets open to a move. So negotiations have to be quick and smooth. And despite negotiations being advanced, it is no done deal as we have seen with other targets. But the mood seems very positive toward this being wrapped up. The question is, though, is he worth the money?
Willian is arguably better than Coutinho. He's quicker & more skillful, but with the same creative flair. Definitely better than Mkhitaryan. In this case I think we are paying a certain fee for the player, and that extra bit for the guarantee of getting it wrapped up.
Willian is like Coutinho, but with much more of a physical presence and (something many can't comprehend) more creativity. {retweet}
More skill and pace, too. Having both in the team would create so many chances.
You can see why we are going for Willian though. Coutinho is amazing. He is. But Willian is just as good if not better. Thus the fee.
