For those of you who still want Erickson, buying Erickson will curtail Coutinho's influence imo. I don't think we'll be able to fit both in the same team.

Whether we have made a bid is unsure at the moment

you`ve just described aspas!
for once i hope this is all just speculation, if we are going to fork out £20m+ on a player i want him to have more in his locker than a kuyt or someone of that ilk.
borini, aspas, now this fella, for someone who`s a big fan of total football rodgers sure likes his hard working plodders.

Someone like Kuyt is exactly what we have missed over the last season. Costa is a good player who did a lot of hard work that allowed Falcao to score a lot of goals - he is a decent proven player. He isn't a "hard working plodder".

you could say the same thing about heskey with owen.
there are tons of youtube clips on this fella and none of them show one single instance where he beats a man by dropping his shoulder or a change of pace, they all  show him bundling the ball over the line or scoring scrappy goals. okay every goal is a good goal but i dont think that type of player is worth £20m, we could have got wolfswinkel for less than half that price if a tap in merchant is what rodgers was looking for.
god help us if this fella is suarez`s replacement.

He isn't a tap in merchant - far from it. He has all the attributes to be a complete striker. The Valencia manager even says he is better than Falcao.

This guy is a very good player - he maybe isn't at the top level but he is certainly in the level just below

Is he going to give up a starting spot for a team in the Champions League football and La Liga to play for us? He'll get more money with us but on the face of it makes more sense for him to turn us down.

Atlético rebuff claims of Liverpool bid for Diego Costa

Several sources have reported that Liverpool have put in a 25 M euro offer for the Brazilian, AS has learned from the club that the claims are false.

http://as.com/diarioas/2013/08/01/engli ... 84721.html

Atlético de Madrid have denied reports that they have received an offer for centre-forward Diego Costa from Liverpool. The capital club told AS on Thursday evening that they have not received any offers, from Liverpool or any other club for the Brazilian. Atlético affirmed that there is zero possibility that Diego Costa will abandon the Vicente Calderón this summer or even next year.

In England, several newspapers have claimed that Liverpool have submitted an offer of 21.8 million pounds (25 million euros) to lure Diego Costa to Anfield - presumably as a direct replacement for Luis Suárez.

Some excellent finishes in the few YouTube videos I watched. Looks like he plays wide right and liks to drift into the box and seems like a natural in the box.

i cant understand this club sometimes, we refuse to pay £18m for one of the top young CB`s in europe but then are willing to spend more than that amount on a better version of borini.
i think this `mentality` thing has gotten into rodgers head, he`s become obsessed with it, he`s bringing in players who seem to have spikey personalities thinking thats the way to stop dropping points against the so called lesser sides when it`s got nothing to do with that.
if you sign quality players who have pace and skill your self confidence as a team grows to the point where you dont believe you can lose, thats how you build consistency and thats how you stop dropping points against relegation fodder, not by signing angry ######

1 hour ago you'd "never heard of him". And now according to you our reported interest in him is a sign that Rodgers doesn't know what he's doing? Relax brother.

So you have seen a video of Costa and decided he is just another Borini despite a report praising him - he does have skill and he does have pace

If Costa is to arrive it will be because he is a good player - simple as that.

Yes Pappadolous is a quality player but he also recently had a very serious knee injury. Currently we have 5 CB's in the squad - one or possibly 2 will need to leave before another arrives

An attacker is another area we need to improve

Papadopoulos has been out injured with a knee injury since December, a knee that has been operated on 3 times in his relatively short career. Last I heard he had broken down in pre season and had to stop training. It would be one hell of a leap of faith to pay 15-20 mil for him. Schalke are a top Germany club so he'll be getting the best treatment to.

i`ve spent the past hour reading up on him and people who watch a lot of spanish footy say he`s more famed for being a pain in the @rse than anything else.
here he is having a running battle with the real madrid defence, including the bit 1.10 in where he spits in his glove and flings it at ramos  :glare:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTeVf0I_JmA&sns=tw
was hoping we`d go in a different direction, like an ericksen, muriel or bernard

On Erikson, most of the reliable journalists seem to think we dropped our interest at end of last season. Too be honest for a player who is the focal point for the best team in his league his statistics are not exactly out of this world. I wouldn't be too disappointed if are looking elsewhere for a new number 10.
