yeah i remember him saying he was happy with the squad depth and from now on in he was only bringing in players that would strengthen the starting XI but who are the next players we are heavily linked with? bertrand and cissokho? (when i say heavily i mean chelsea announced that they`d turned down a bid from us and the valencia manager has said cissokho is going to liverpool on loan)
by the looks of it luis will have to go before we bring in anyone remotely resembling a marquee signing

BR says a lot of stuff and then seems to contradict himself in the next interview.
i have my doubts whether we will capture anything that can be classed as a marquee signing before the window ends. at least what most fans would class as marquee anyway. expect more along the lines of what we have signed and being linked with.
I cant see too much being done either while ayre is on tour.

I don't get this, surely they can sort all this out over email and phone.

:D surely, that would be to easy  :;):   Don't worry, my guess is that good work is going on in the background, and as as result, a top quality 'marquee' signing will arrive very soon. Just watch this space!

Graham Hunter ‏@BumperGraham 9m
#Soldado Baldini is in Valencia. Meeting club now. Spurs and Liverpool have offered. Valencia want €30m, which is the clause. Doubt will get

Spurs and us :D

Great player Soldado. 30m euros is kind of too much though. He's probably worth around 20m in pounds, like Negredo.

Soldaldo would be a quality signing - better than Negrado.

Tonights London  evening standard

Roberto Soldado too much for Tottenham at £25m as Liverpool close in on striker

Tottenham are in danger of missing out on a striker for the second time in less than a week with Liverpool closing in on Roberto Soldado.

Spurs switched their attention to the Valencia forward following Christian Benteke’s U-turn on Friday, when he decided to extend his contract with Aston Villa.

Standard Sport understands Benteke agreed to a new deal, which tripled his wages to £60,000-a-week, after it became evident Spurs would not pay the £25million asking price.

But the north London club are now being asked to pay the same amount for Soldado after having a £17m offer rejected. While Spurs are hesitating to meet the asking price, Liverpool are prepared to meet the buy-out clause in his contract.

The price for Soldado, who scored 24 goals last season, will go up to £31m after August 3 but Liverpool hope to agree a deal before then.

Speculation is rife that the Spain international is being signed to replace Luis Suarez at Anfield but coach Brendan Rodgers insists that he is not for sale.

Suarez, who is one of Arsenal’s main targets, has reported for the club’s pre-season tour in Australia but Rodgers plans to have more talks with him over his future today.

I think Valencia are just chucking our name into the mix to maybe squeeze more out of spurs.

He's a classic poacher that scores plenty of goals. I think he'd be a good signing, but hopefully not as a Suarez replacement.

He's a great striker and he'd be a good replacement for Suarez (can't see Soldado arriving if we're not selling Suarez). The only downside is probably the fact that he'd only be good for 2-3 seasons, but other than that there's really nothing else I would be concerned about. He'll score goals, that much I'm sure.

From the echo:

Rodgers confirmed that he wants to sign a left-back and an attacking player before the transfer window shuts.

“If can do that we will be happy,” he added. “It's not about numbers, it is about quality.”

There have been a host of attackers linked - Soldano, Eriksen the biggest, and I'm not sure we'd get either.

Who might the left back be I wonder?

Just have a feeling we will get Cissokho on loan with an option to buy and Eriksen. This is on the assumption Suarez stays. If he leaves, then I'd expect a couple of more big incomings. Personally, I hope we tell him he has to stay at least one more season
