As far as I'm concerned, replacing GJ should've been priority this summer with Kelly getting a more substantial role. I can't believe how people forgive him for his defensive lapses, and not just lapses, ***** poor defending in general - the guy can never ever block a cross, or intercept one, and half the goals against are of this type. He's a poor defender who should be replaced. Ever since we've had him, the fortunes of LFC have gone down dramatically (not that it's been him in particular, but yeah)

There seems to be an awful lot of people on this forum willing to stick the boot into or take thinly veiled digs at Rogers, Ayre and FSG, even using transfer rumours from crappy sources as ammunition. The window has another 2 months to run so maybe those people should be kind enough to give our club the benefit of the doubt for now. Our spending and sales have seen us come up about break even so far so based on FSG’s record so far I think it’s fair to assume we will bring in more players.

The lack of Henrik arriving will be down to one thing - CL footy , that's why he will pick Dortmund - nothing to do with FSG etc

I think Glenn Johnson has been a great player for us. The end of the 2011-2012 season the only plus was we had a solid defence. I think we conceded second least behind City.

He offers us something going forward aswell and the way BR plays it suits the game of Johnson.

HOWEVER Rodgers needs to realise that we need a strong athletic DM. Gerrard doesnt have the legs anymore and Lucas wont be up to playing that role. Joe Allen is as weak as *****. Noone has signed Waynama so please let us get in there before he joins Southampton or Cardiff has a great season and we look to buy him for 25+ million next year.

Agree 100%
The system we played last season did the full backs no favours, or the centre backs if i am honest.
If the full backs are being asked to push on that much playing almost as wingers, they are going to struggle to be in the right position when the opposing team counter attacks.
I also agree with LFC1990 about the defensive midfield position.
If we persist with that system we could do with a defensive midfield that covers the ground far more quickly than the players we have in there now.

That's why when we hear all of the talk about signing Alonso I am not too sure. While he was one of my favourite players of the last 10 years he isnt really what's needed now.
It would be Mascherano for me if we wanted to bring back one of our former world class players that would be a far better fit.

I like Johnson and have always rated him, he seems to get a bit of unwarranted stick among Red fans.

However, he was found wanting on certain occasions last season and this was irrelevant to the system we played. He was found wanting IIRC on set-pieces and losing his man and misjudging the flight of the ball. This had nowt to do with the system, this was straight up defending where he was in position marking an opponent. In my book Danny Agger was another if not worse culprit on this issue - defending crosses/set-pieces.

That said, Johnson looked burnt out towards the tail end of last season where most of his mishaps took place, I'd still have him as RB because on his day he is easily one of the  best RB in his position and is usually a highly consistent player.

As for Martin Kelly, well, I think it's time he was transitioned from RB to CB and if I were Rodgers I'd be bedding him in there for the cup games at least this season.

Of Course Glen arrival isn't the reason for our downturn but to regard him as a solid defender is just as laughable.

Johnson is a poor defender ,just compare him to Enrique ,he isn't a bright fella ,he has no sense of position and orientation and his timing trying to rescue the ball is pathetic and his passing at times as appalling. He has those star quality moments when he has those driving runs forward and a screamer from time to time but that's it. He is a below average defender which shouldn't feel too comfortable in his starting lineup position.

Our back four is a mess. Agger is our best CB and he is also shaky at times ,Enrique is a good solid defender but doesn't offer much going forward ,Glen we discussed and the 2nd CB isn't their. To that add Lucas which is in my opinion a reserve player at best. A lot of work getting this defensive unit together.

You don't seem to have understood the reasons behind the change in system that GJ now plays in and how exposes us.

12 months ago you were calling GJ a donkey and an Amatuer so it's safe to say some will just never rate him.

The reasons why we conceeded more last season isn't because of GJ it's because of the system we employed and the lack of physical presence in the middle.

GJ is a solid defender who has proven that on many occasions , but to start accusing him of being "not too bright" is wrong

Enrique gets forward at every opportunity, and with the exception of Suarez has as much skill on the ball as anyone else in the squad. He may not be perfect but imo he's one of the best all round LB's we've had in a long long time.

As for Glen Johnson. Yeah, defensively he has had some howlers, I sometimes have mooted that he'd maybe make a better right midfielder but as a RB he's still not the dunce that you constantly try to make him out to be.

I'm perfectly happy with both of our full backs.  I don't get why people think we need to get competition for them, or improve them, considering we still really need to improve other positions.

I am starting to think that Toure is Rodgers' plan for fixing our CB problem, and that doesn't exactly excite me.

If Toure is seen as the fix then its a false fix because he won't help our problems - think that is clear
