There is still work to be done in the transfer market, however, as a direct replacement for the retired Jamie Carragher has yet to be signed.

Although interest in Greek centre half Kyriakos Papadopoulos is over due to injury concerns and an inflated asking price, Rodgers still wants Sporting Lisbon’s Thiago Ilori but the fee is the current stumbling block.

Liverpool value the player at £6 million but Sporting want more than double.

Rodgers still hopes he can lure Armenian Henrikh Mkhitaryan to Anfield – although that pursuit could drag on for several more weeks – and there could also be numerous departures.

Wrong, many of FIFA's regulations are legally binding and gender differentiation is one that ensures the two professional codes are separated, and for very good reasons.

Simply put, a "good" lawyer wouldn't even bother contesting the rules.
exactly, the fact that it has already been tried and failed is proof enough of the stance FIFA would take.

And for what it's worth I agree. There is enough outrage when a male player receive a harsh challenge or gets hurt, imagine the uproar if the recipient was a woman. Football, technically, is not a contact sport but the reality is contact is made. Putting women into that environment is both dangerous and unfair.

It would become a lawyer's wet dream, hence the probable reason why FIFA have no interest in changing their rules regarding this.

Best it's kept fair rather than bleating for equality.

So, it's okay for him to flirt with Barca every summer and offer himself about?

Brendan Rodgers says Liverpool's spending this summer is not finished yet despite the arrivals of four new players.

Kolo Toure, Simon Mignolet, Iago Aspas and Luis Alberto all reported for the first day of pre-season on Tuesday after completing summer moves to Anfield.

And Rodgers remains in the hunt for further new recruits, with a creative player top of his list.

"Certainly another attacking player will really benefit us," said Rodgers, who has been linked with a move for Shakhtar Donetsk's Henrikh Mkhitaryan, "and probably another defender.

"We'll see how it develops over the course of the next few months."

Rodgers has achieved his initial target of signing new players early in the summer, and the club's decisive business comes on the back of January moves for Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho.

He told the club website: "It's a big thing to the club because we looked at last summer and there were lots of things that were difficult for us. That meant that the opening period of the season was difficult.

"From that we've got all our people involved, our recruitment team in - and they got to work as soon as they came in.

"We brought great signings in in January and that's really helped us. Obviously the plan was to get our signings in as soon as we possibly could - and we still hope to make a few more.

"I'm very happy with the four players I've brought in, and they'll add to the group."

And Henrik might have a choice of clubs
