Great performance but one swallow doesnt make the summer.

Im not convinced but would glad to be proven wrong that he has future here.

Win win situation though performances like that would add to his value if he does go

If Downing can get some confidence likewise with Jordan Henderson then I believe they can have a future at the club. It's in their hands, they have the ability, it's whether or not they have a winning mentality that remains to be seen. I'm not convinced, but I am happy to be proven wrong.

What great rollicking was this? By playing him as leftback or... ? Personally I don't know how you can praise the lad at all, he's achieved ZERO since he joined, he's been a major drain on funds for no return. The manager was so desparate he played at LB. So what if he stored a goal, he's clearlty immature way beyond his years and didn't think he had to put in any effort until he got a rocket from 'school teacher' Rodgers? This isn't school, this is life. Get rid of the useless tw@t, we're not a charity for dim-wits.

Reg as you know my opinion of Downing is that the sooner he leaves the better. Well that certainly was the case until the last few matches. Downing has actually showed some signs of fight and determination. If this isn't a flash in the pan we may just get a return on our investment. Let's face it Kenny played him in virtually every match and Downing thought he was bomb proof. That is no longer the case and a new management style seems to be paying dividends. I just hope I remain positive after the United game because that will test Downing's metal if he plays.

Don't want to be negative and all but I think that he just looks good because we're winning. IMO he's still not the right type of player for us and should be sold in the next transfer window.

Henderson though, he's a different story. That kid is definitely showing signs of improvement.

In fairness Downing has contributed significantly towards us winning.

he's doing OK...a long, long way to go to justify the 20 million we spent on him

Made me think when reminded we paid 20M for him - we must be the laughing stock of the league, the money we've OVERPAID for mediocrity.
That said. Downing IS playing well lately - long may it last...

Stewart Downing has created 17 chances in his last 4 appearances. He created 8 in the 8 previous appearances this season. Revitalised

We bought him on July 11th, 2011. We paid 20 million so at 8% interest we've already paid 2.27 million interest on him. At 60,000 a week we've paid 4.4 million in wages. So one goal and a few assists and we reckon for 6.67 million quid we're back on track?

A COMPLETE waste of money and terrible return on investment - there's no way to justify him staying past January, we can't afford to be romantic, we have to look at the numbers.

have to agree....if a club came in the next few weeks with a 10 mill offer then i'd snap their arm off.  Poor player who shouldn't be anywhere near Anfield
