Pay a premium for what exactly? A guy that keeps it f*cking simple?? The fact is he has done NOTHING to justify that size of that fee, but hes another in an increasingly long list because for the last 2 seasons we have paid head melting amounts of cash for players that in no way justified the fee being asked for them.

For me it is Henderson MK 2. Very young, english, just 1-2 season in a PL midtable club where he has looked pretty good.
End up paying 15 m+. Big gamble still.

The size of the fee is only rumour mate, I didn't realise you were FD at LFC, why does the fee concern you sooooo much, if we can afford (and want) to pay the fee, BRod wants him and he wants to come here, then deal done!! you are reading too many papers, if he comes here and does a job the fee will be irrelevant.

Swansea City manager Michael Laudrup has insisted that Joe Allen will be 'very, very expensive' and should cost Liverpool more than £20million.

The 22-year-old has already been the subject of a bid from former Swans boss Brendan Rodgers - who is now in charge at Anfield.

Laudrup, though, has pointed to the fact that Liverpool spent £17million on Jordan Henderson last summer, and he feels that Allen should cost more.

"He is worth a lot of money because he's a good player," said Laudrup.

"The manager knows him and knows if he wants to change the way Liverpool play he needs a player in the midfield like Joe Allen.

"But he also knows he's very, very expensive. We saw they bought a couple of midfielders in the last few years for a lot of money, but with all due respect Joe is on a level above.

"In my opinion, if one is worth £17m then Joe is worth more, perhaps over £20million. I'm talking as a football man not as a chairman but if the chairman asks my advice then I will tell him the same."

Exchange

It is understood the offer Swansea rejected last month included Jonjo Shelvey moving on a season-long loan to the Liberty.

But Laudrup says he will not accept an offer that includes a player not considered first-choice at Anfield.

When asked about the possibility of an exchange, he said: "If we could have (Luis) Suarez ... We have good players here and they have good players, but I can't see a player not in the starting 11 at Liverpool being in the starting 11 in our team.

"They might want to do it because they can pay less money."

While Allen continues to be linked with Liverpool, Laudrup is still looking to strengthen his squad, and the Dane says he is closing in on two more additions, believed to be a striker and a winger.

"One is quite close but the other one is more difficult," he said.

"But I hope he will be an important player for us. He is playing at quite a big club so it's not that easy. They are both offensive players. One can defend as well.

"We are also working on other alternatives."

---------------------------------

Because we over spent last year on players, we're now considered the MUGS who should pay more every time a deal goes through. Fair play to Laudrup though, really. Allen is probably better than Henderson, thus logic says, he's worth more...

Does it not concern you that there are so many players out there who are just as capable, if not better than Joe Allen yet available, or were available at a cheaper price? Yet every season we're getting raped by paying over the odds for overrated British "talent" who are snapped up after performing well after 1 season in the league. If anything, purchasing him prevents Shelvey from getting more playing time which he deserves, and also makes Jordan Henderson's transfer irrelevant.

Allen hasn't even signed and already called overrated ?!

If his name was Jose Allenso I guarentee the attitude would be different from certain people.

Allen is a very good player - where he comes from shouldn't matter.

He is a good player at what he does, but he is not a player who is going to create 10 goals a season, he doesnt score with any regularity from midfield and he has not proven himself at a consistent level to the point where the fee demanded for him should be so high. How many times have we been down the road Benny in the last two seasons? Laudrup himself said as much in the interview above that because Liverpool have spent so much on certain players in the past, we should pay more for Allen which is absolute hogwash but this statement has only been made because of the frankly insane spending of the club on at best average British talents over the last eighteen months.

And do you know what - F*ck Swansea, they have stolen Michu from a club in financial difficulty for pittance they have a goddamn cheek to accuse anyone of trying to buy one of their players for cheap - ESPECIALLY AS IN THIS CASE IT ISNT F*CKING CHEAP!!

Disillusioned with the transfer system at the moment, its only being exacerbated by my clubs inability to maneuver with any kind of competence in it.

Laudrup is living in cloud cockoo land if he really thinks his squad, or first XI, at Swansea is comparable to ours. We shouldn't pay any more than £12 million for Allen.

We should see movement in and out of the club this week. Relax.

we shouldnt be spending £20m on defensive midfielders when the best one in the league is already at the club.
allen has spent most of his short career in the lower divisions and has played 1 season in the top flight, no way on earth does that justify a £20m price tag.
£15m is a very high price but £20m is a p1$$take.

I wouldnt pay £15m + for Allen personally but you cant blame Swansea for trying it on
and everyone one trys it on with us given we have a record of being a soft touch in the
transfer market.

The lad looks a good player but Im just sick of us being ripped off and we need to start
being more agressive on these matters and not being taken for a ride by every club we
do business with.
