I agree with you up until this point.  Part of the reason (a very big part IMO) is that there are no buyers because of the wages, not that he's a ***** player.  That shows how whacked out our wage structure was.

I won't celebrate Rafa going........ but I will be over the moon if Dalglish comes in. League within 2 years if he gets the job, AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

It seems that we're trying to reduce the wage structure by a lot. That's al good but the problem is that we have players who are earning much much more than those who are coming in to the new wage structure that FSG wants to implement. Aquilani, Cole, they're strictly OK players, probably in the same league as Gylfi, but they came in at a time where our wage structure was very different. This has to obviously influence the decision of a player like Sigurdsson who may not like being a half the salary of someone of similar quality/use to the team. No one would tbh.

Sigurdsson didn't join us because a) we paid him less, but more importantly b) we paid him much less than players at similar potential/talent as him.

Buy young policy also has a lot to do in enforcing the new wage structure as well. Younger players should in general be agreeable to lower wages. The only way for the new wage structure to get put in place is for us to sell off as many players on the old wage structure as soon as possible. That's why players like Aquilani, even if they may be useful to the team, are being dished out to buyers.

there may be some truth in that in terms of that is the long term vision of the club but i`m sure if rodgers (who has worked with gylfi at both reading and swansea) said to them `look this fella is going to be an absolute superstar` i`m sure they would have offered him more money.

This is more than just Sigurdsson - this is showing that players will pick other clubs over us.

???

Remember that Spurs finished 4th last season so don't judge just on money - the whole package offered by Spurs (financial and football) was more attractive than our offer - that to me is a worrying sign if we struggle to compete against Spurs. It doesn't matter who the player was.

Were both playing in europa league next year.

We have a new manager who worked with sigurdsson. We should have acted quicker but it shows that he isnt a priority foor us or we would have atleast matched there offer

There could be a host of reasons why this lad went to Spurs and we will probably never
find out why to be honest.

To be honest Rodgers maybe talked a bit too much when asked about the lad but in
fairness it was during his first days in the job when he was being peppered by the
media about a deal he had set up at Swansea.

I doubt he will be discussing any future targets and had he kept quite over Gylfi we
would have be none the wiser at this point and the lad would just be Spurs signing.

it's money, nothing else. He's getting 30% more cash at Spuds plus a hefty signing on fee.

We don't need his sort here, so lets move on and find players who want to be here.

Money talks - his sort are 99% of professional footballers - you get players by offering trophies and money.

Gylfi Sigurdsson has revealed he spurned Liverpool's advances because he believes Tottenham are a club that is going places.

Speculation surrounding Sigurdsson's future came to an end when Spurs confirmed they had signed the 22-year-old Icelandic international on a reported five-year deal.
He had been linked with Swansea, where he was on loan last season, and the midfielder confirmed this evening there was also strong interest from Liverpool, who are now managed by former Swans boss Brendan Rodgers.
But Sigurdsson opted to move to White Hart Lane after a meeting with the Spurs' hierarchy, who persuaded him the north London club are destined for great things.
"I enjoyed playing under Brendan and I am grateful for everything he has done for me, but after careful consideration I liked Spurs best," Sigurdsson told Icelandic website mbl.is.
"The team has world-class players in their ranks and they play good football, which I like. I was impressed with the club's plans for next season and the coming years.
"There is clearly great ambition at Tottenham and the club intends to do big things. It is a pleasure to see that Gareth Bale has signed a new contract.
"There are top players in the team and the club is getting a new training ground."

You do realise that Spurs have finished way above us for the last 3 seasons straight . Stop using the money as the only reason. They in the last 3 years have shown they are closer to competing in the CL than us.
