Player power also saw Benitez depart it was reported. Maybe they contributed
to the threads here.

Does anyone recall the disbelief on Gerrards face when he substituted Torres?

Some people like to dream, others live in the real world.

Benitez had to go, Dagger had to go, and we pursue the goal of reinstating this
club as a major force again without both.

Just a thought on Guardiola.....I'm going against the grain here and think he'd struggle at Anfield.  He had the best players at his disposal at Barca and granted did a brilliant job.  Also, he was Barca born and bred.  At Liverpool he would face a completely different challenge trying to forge a winning team with the like of Spearing, Downing and Henderson.  Guardiola had a fantastic team put on a plate for him.  He has no experience of building a team.

Rafa drove us all nuts at times, especially with his constant rotations and substitutions.  However, there is no denying that we were not only competing regularly in the champions league during his reign but we were a serious force competing in finals and semi-finals.  Also, despite the buffoonery of H&G and geting caught in the crossfire of what was going on in the boardroom at the time he almost guided us to the premiership in 2009.  Giving him another crack would certainly be a better option than handing the baton to Martinez.

Finally, one final alternative to throw into the mix......someone who has won the premiership and champions league and is itching for a return to England.....Jose Mourinho !!!!!

Do we really want to go back to playing not to lose, rather than playing to win?
To go back to robotic subs?
To go back to bizarre and ridiculous decisions that have people scratching their heads?
To go back to bad man management that pisses off key players and makes them want to leave?

No thanks.

Things may be looking bad at the moment, but I hope that the owners don't jump to any more rash conclusions.

that type of arrogance shows why benitez is better off not coming back.

Lad, it looks like you're new here, so do yourself a favour and search for some of the threads from 2008,2009 and 2010 and refresh your memory about Benitez.

There's a reason why he still hasn't got a job.

i was sitting in the stadium during that time lad not in dublin.
i`ve been watching us since the mid 70`s lad, i grew up around the ground, following this club has given me some of the greatest moments of my life.
i wont f**king bore you about how in the 80`s when thatcher was destroying this city that liverpool football club was about the only thing in my life that was going right. it was like that for a lot of people not just me.
by the end of houlliers reign i`d given up hope that i`d ever see a title or a european cup again, once moores had threw his hands up and said i`m finished, i`m skint, i thought that was it.to be fair we`d done nothing for over a decade to suggest we could really challenge united and arsenal so by then i`d sort of already accepted that we were a busted flush.
the painful thing though was seeing the clubs at the top, united and chelsea, it couldnt have been much worse. i remember thinking why couldnt it be leeds and derby or something, why those f**king 2?
seeing united brag about being the first billion pound club ever and chelsea being the richest ever was tough.
so it looked like the club was coming apart at the seams, the owner who`s family had owned the club for generations was bailing out, the last of the bootroom (roy evans) had tried and failed, this new foreign manager had failed, the style of footy had even gone, opposition fans who once applauded our style of play themselves were shouting hoof at us and now even our star players, the 2 lads who came through the system, lads who should be 100% reds were saying they wanted out. they said they loved the club but they only had one short career and couldnt waste it here.
i was rock bottom, well i thought i was until they mentioned the next manager, i wanted keegan or toshack so when they mentioned this spanish fella i`d never even heard of i thought f**king hell we are really finished, if there was any doubt that we were finished this puts the stamp on it now, i almost wept.
i actually did weep but that was 12 months later, i was in my arl fella`s living room and the 2 of us were hugging while my brothers and mates were jumping around the place like loons.
and you go on about subs? and rigid formations?
before benitez lad we were finished, over.

Look I doubt we are going to get two of the best 2 managers in the world (Guardiola or Mourhino) but Fenway should
wheel money into anyones house that is next on the list.

We need a top manager, a f*cking top manager this time. No messing about.

It will take big coin but we chucked so much at shyte players surely Fenway see the value in hiring the best
managers around. Long term its cost effective, less waste and more productivity.

Managers are still cheaper than players, yet they are the biggest asset at a club.

Get the right man, at any price, and most have a price, and our club will move forward.

Who are the top proven managers we can get ?

Rafa must be on that list - they should at least talk to him and hear what he has to say

Not according to Tony Barrett on Twitter.

It's time for people like you to get over the single minded hatred of our most successful manager in the last two decades.

Martinez etc aren't fit to tie his shoelaces
