For me either Rafa or AVB will be my first choice...

Rafa - I liked the way we out-strategised other teams under him. And I liked the way we pressured for the ball. Would like too see what he can do when given proper financial support and not sell to buy policy. He was building a great team with the likes of Torres, Mascherano, Alonso and Reina... it was during the sell to buy policy that he started whealing and dealing a little too much. Proven manager and very unlikely to make us worse than we are now...

AVB - I like the concept of a young modern manager. Didn't work out at Chelsea but definitely capable. We can plan for longer term under him. Improvements may not be immediately obvious but for the longer haul it may be better. He's got a thing or two to proof that he can cut it in the premiership. Barnes suggested AVB will be perfect for us and I agree...

For me he's just too much of a gamble and has little experience at the very top. The only experience he's had at the very top was with Chelsea and he was hounded out by the ego's who had no respect for him. Why are the likes of Carra and Gerrard who are of a similar age to him going to look up to him? Both Carra and Stevie would be better candidates for the job than AVB in my eyes. They at least understand the club and would be fighting for it. Some say that it's the Chelsea players fault that AVB's Chelski stint ended as it did, but lets face facts....AVB does not command respect and for me he certainly isn't the leader to take us forwards.

the problem is, if we bring a young manager in and rafa is still in and around the club, people will say he's a shadow hanging over the manager, in the same way kenny was when roy was here. it's almost as if rafa has been waiting around for this job to become available again. he's had several offers since leaving inter and has turned them down for one reason or another. he sees liverpool as home now.

spot on redant, plus AVB was never a player, it`s going to be hard for him at 34 or 35 to convince top players who have won champions leagues and played in world cups that he knows best because he`s been on a few coaching courses.
the likes of wenger wasnt a top player but he at least has age and experience on his side, players respect that, they are used to being bossed around by someone older but it`s not so easy to take orders from someone your own age.
this wont end well.

Yeah, I'd have Rafa back.  Knows the club, knows the league, knows how set us up tactically to compete and surely knows, after a few years away, what mistakes not to repeat this time around.  FSG may hesitate to install another fan favourite after Kenny but I don't think Rafa is simply a sentimental choice.  I think there are plenty of good football reasons to give him another go and I hope the owners are far-sighted enough to recognize them.

People forget that Rafa was new when he arrived and unproven over here but
the fans grew to love him. It can happen again.

Not sure why there is this obsession with old flames but when its done its done
and hes had his time here, going back will not work.

unproven? he won 2 spanish titles, spain is a 2 horse race like scotland so to beat the 2 most powerful clubs in the world over a season takes some doing, to do it twice is amazing.

Rafa hasnt been a top manager since about 2008, he was at Valencia and here for a while but not now.

Things change and people change, Rafas race is run in top class management as was Daggers frankly.

id be disapointed if rafa wasnt at least considered or interviewed for the role.
fsg are more than likely going to go for a younger option and that saddens me as we need a big name who will get the best out of what we have along with their respect and desire to play for him.
any candidates will probably have to submit their plan in no more than a thousand words outlining their plan and expectations to satisfy fsg.
they could be very well taken in by whoever talks the most *****.

thats your opinion lad, if rafa was unproven then what the f**k is AVB, martinez, lambert etc?
at least rafa did it in a big league, AVB lasted 6 months in a big league and made a team that won the f.a cup and got to the CL final look like the keystone cops.

parchpea, Rafa was a PROVEN manager when he came to Liverpool, he was a born winner, won 2 la liga title and a UEFA cup in 3 years, clearly a winner.

We need someone like that, a younger Rafa, though FSG should consider Benitez even if they won't pick him.

Klopp and Gaurdiola  are the best of the bunch

on guardiola though,does he have the bottle to take on a job like this?.i know he is a good manager but he has walked away from one of the best sides in the world citing the pressure as the reason.things would run a lot smoother when your winning like barca so it remains to be seen what he could do with an average side.
anyway no way will he come here so soon after leaving barca saying that he needs to take time out to recharge.

I'm a little confused by this focus on a "younger" manager.  Surely, experience is an asset in the world of management?  I'm not suggesting we look at doddering pensioners or anything but I would think it madness to consider Rafa too old at age 52.

If Benitez is that hot a property why has he not secured a top football job
since being fired by Inter after only 6 months in the job.

He was fired twice in less than 12 months and since then all he has done is
housework and pick his kids up from school.

Hes been out of work for 18 months and elite managers do not stay unemployed
that long.
