on guardiola though,does he have the bottle to take on a job like this?.i know he is a good manager but he has walked away from one of the best sides in the world citing the pressure as the reason.things would run a lot smoother when your winning like barca so it remains to be seen what he could do with an average side.
anyway no way will he come here so soon after leaving barca saying that he needs to take time out to recharge.

I cannot imagine Guardiola coming here and being a success.  I'm not saying it's easy to manage Barcelona--the pressure would be immense, as he's know doubt showing these days.  Still, it's one thing to come into a dressing room where the likes of Messi, Xavi, Iniesta and the rest have been ensconced and winning trophies for some time already and it's quite another to switch club and country for the opportunity to mold the likes of Jordan Henderson and Andy Carroll into title challengers.   Now, it's surely a moot point as he won't take it on, but something tells me that, if he did, he wouldn't do an especially good job here.

I'm a little confused by this focus on a "younger" manager.  Surely, experience is an asset in the world of management?  I'm not suggesting we look at doddering pensioners or anything but I would think it madness to consider Rafa too old at age 52.

imo they are trying to buy time if they appoint a successor like avb or klopp.they are young but are decent managers who will have to be given at least 3 years to turn it around by signing their own players and getting their influence across.by then fsg would at least hope to have a stadium in the balance and the extra revenue will make the funds available to sign the players needed to push on and win the title.
also i think that a lot of the younger managers handle themselves very well with the media and that might appeal to them more than short term success on the field.

i agree.
the players he had just needed to be motivated before games as they had so many with natural ability.
he would be well out of his comfort zone but equally it would be a real test of his managerial ability to take a job like this on.
never going to happen at this time.

Perhaps so but I think it's an unnecessary way to limit the field of contenders.  There are plenty of 'well-seasoned' managers who could be expected to embark on a three year plan.  Hell, even a five-year plan for that matter.  It's not a long stretch of time in the grand scheme of things and any manager who's the sunny side of 60, say, and in good health should be able to see it through.  Let's make sure we have a hard look at the credentials, the experience, the temperament and, yes, the future vision of all contenders and not just apply some arbitrary age cap for the sake of marketing a 'fresh new face at Anfield' or similar bollox.

By "young" do they perhaps mean "mouldable"? Football is changing a an alarming rate. FSG are maybe visionaries who have predicted that in x many years there will be no managers or coaches as we know them today. The "young, charismatic" boss will be nothing more than a figurehead, the face of the "brand" (what the f*** is the word "brand" when applied to football? Or should I say 'soccer'). Players will be chosen by DoF's. Media handling will be done by PR men. Coaching will be done by ...trainers or something equally stupid. It will become more and more like American Football each and everyday. Goal-line technology anyone? It would be the next step towards doing away with Referee's all together.

We gave them our language. They raped it, sent it back, and now we all say dude, and cool, and awsome.We gave them football and they're giving us back "soccer". It's a business now and all the rich folks want in. The more we offer to the americans, the more they will breed with our culture and the more hybrids will be formed.

I doubt very much that Rafa will be the "face of the brand".

Trust me. Look for the younger, better looking blokes. Heck, Ayres even said "The board will create a criteria of what that manager should look like and we'll match that with the best possible candidates and make a decision on that basis." Ill-chosen words?

the reasons benitez hasnt got another job in this country are two fold, firstly the press and media villified the man, anything he did like rotate his squad (what everyone does) or zonal marking was blown into a national debate, 6 years ago on the continent other countries were talking about adopting the euro as the national currency or iraq or afghanistan, in the u.k the big national debate was how we defend our corners.
plus fans outside of liverpool genuinely think he was competing with the likes of chelsea, arsenal and united on a equal footing, they didnt realise that years of being out of the champions league and trying to compete with the teams in it had cleaned moores out, he had to sell because we were skint.
we were skint at the exact moment chelsea started spending money like it was going out of fashion, united became the first billion pound club and arsenal off the back of their great team decided to move to a bigger stadium.
that didnt bother rafa.
rafa benitez inherited a team devoid of idea`s and a fanbase devoid of hope and made dreams come true, if he was english, if he was harry redknapp or sam allardyce he would be a national hero now. 2 CL finals in 3 years with that team. people outside of liverpool just dont realise the constraints he was working under, rafa twice defeated chelsea in huge, huge CL semi finals, mourinho had all the players and all the money and all the advantages but got his @rse handed to him by rafa but somehow mourinho was the special one and rafa was the fat so and so.
the second reason, is the one that says it all, when he was being linked with the chelsea job i went to a few of their forums and they were all saying the same thing - dont want him, he`s a rat eater or dont want him, he`s a bin dipper, another more eliquent poster summed it up better - dont want him, he`s liverpool through and through.
the rest of the country see him as a liverpool man, so do i.

Rafa again? Really? Sign a failing manager because we run out of idea? In case everyone forget Rafa turned Liverpool to a programmed ultra tactical team which sucked the life out of creativity ,passion and attacking football. His trading skills are mediocre at best and he vests way much trust in hard working donkeys then in talent and skill. We aren't in Italy and this isn't italian football ,had enough with all those managers which turn every game to fcking chess match, Rafa maybe the best Cup manager but he isn't fit for a long run campaigns. Bring one of the Dutch managers ,some total football ,let's enjoy the game FFS.
