Reds step up pursuit of trio
Tiago Ilori, Luis Alberto and Henrikh Mkhitaryan deals gaining momentum

Liverpool FC are set to step  up their pursuit of Tiago Ilori and Henrikh Mkhitaryan as Brendan Rodgers’ summer revamp at Anfield gathers pace.

And the Reds also hope to find  out in the next 24 hours whether their bid to sign Spanish starlet Luis Alberto from Sevilla has  been successful.

Rodgers is eager to get a  sizeable chunk of his transfer  business done early, and having  returned from a family holiday at  the weekend, is hopeful of  making progress on a number of  fronts in the coming days.

Iago Aspas’ £7.7m move from  Celta Vigo is on the verge of  completion, though a delay in  finalising the paperwork means  the deal has not been confirmed  by the club yet. Aspas returned to  Spain late on Wednesday  evening, with his brother and  agent, Jonathan, citing  “bureaucratic issues” for the  delay.

Liverpool, however, still  expect the deal to go through.

Their next priority is to secure a deal for Ilori. The Reds have  been locked in negotiations with  the defender’s club, Sporting  Lisbon, and believe they are close  to agreeing a fee for the 20-year-old.

Sporting had initially wanted  a deal worth around 5m Euros  (£4.2m), but Liverpool’s initial  bids have been closer to the £3m  mark.

But with the player having  privately indicated his desire to move to Merseyside, a  compromise deal should be  agreed in the next few days.

And Liverpool could look to  follow that with a move for  Shakhtar Donestk star Mkhitaryan. The Reds had the midfielder scouted during  Armenia’s 4-0 World Cup qualifying win over Denmark in  Copenhagen on Tuesday, and are  ready to step up their interest in the 24-year-old.

Mkhitaryan would not come  cheap, with Shakhtar likely to  demand around £20m. But with  Luis Suarez’s future unclear, and  Andy Carroll edging closer to  completing a move to West Ham United, Rodgers is ready to  redouble his efforts to sign the  highly-rated playmaker.

The deal for Luis Alberto,  meanwhile, looks set to hinge on  the next 24 hours.

Alberto spent last season on  loan with Barcelona, and the  Catalans have an option to make the move permanent for a pre-agreed fee.

That option, however, expires today. And should Barcelona fail to exercise it, then Liverpool are confident the 20-year-old midfielder will make the switch to Merseyside.

Liverpool make £8m Mignolet No 1 target with Reina heading towards Anfield exit

Liverpool hope to sign Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet for £8million in the next week.
The Merseyside club have bid £7m but the Wearsiders are holding out for nearer £10m, with the clubs likely to reach a compromise.
Manager Brendan Rodgers has taken the initiative as speculation continues to link his current No 1 Pepe Reina with a switch to Barcelona, where Victor Valdes is refusing to sign a new deal.

Wanted man: Simon Mignolet is an £8million target for Liverpool and they hope to finalise the deal soon
Valdes has just a year left on his contract and is tipped for a move to Monaco, who are making a push to acquire Europe’s top talent under the ownership of Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev.
On a day when Liverpool were moved to brand an email reputedly sent by managing director Ian Ayre — suggesting Luis Suarez would soon sign for Real Madrid — a ‘complete fake’, Rodgers set out plans to improve his squad.
He said: ‘We need to build up the depth. I want to have people who might be disappointed because they’re not even on the bench. At the minute we don’t have that so it’s competition we want to get.
‘I don’t want a massive group. We want a tight group with a real core of 17 or 18 players who feel they should always be playing and then supported by a few of our top young talents. We haven’t got that. We have one or two on the sidelines but we need more than that.’

Barca-bound? Pepe Reina seems set for the Anfield exit and could replace Victor Valdes
Belgium goalkeeper Mignolet is anxious to raise his profile ahead of next year’s World Cup in Brazil.
Mignolet is under pressure for his place in the national side from  Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois, who has been allowed to go on loan again to Atletico Madrid.
The greater exposure he will receive at Anfield is a big factor in Mignolet’s desire to quit the North East. He has proved himself one of the best performers in  the Premier League since joining from St-Truiden for £800,000 three years ago.
Aston Villa insist they are not  concerned that another Belgium star, Christian Benteke, is yet to sign the new contract he was offered at the end of the season.
Talks have taken place with the striker and his agents but Villa are relaxed about the impasse after receiving word from Arsenal and Tottenham — two reported suitors — that Benteke is not on their summer shopping lists.

the club has said that llori and alberto are being brought in for the future and toure has been signed as defensive cover.
and if one of our rivals like spurs or arsenal signed aspas would you be that concerned?
mkhitaryan is a top prospect and i`d love to see that type of player arrive here but i`ve got a funny feeling he will be bought with the money we get from suarez.
personally i`d rather see us sign papadopolous, muriel (pipe dream i know) and mkhitaryan, thats what i`d call a good transfer window and there shouldnt be any reason why we dont aim for those types of players, if we are not in for the falcao`s, rooneys and ronaldo`s then we should at least be in for the up and coming prospects. that deloitte have us down as 8th in terms of clubs with the biggest turnover worldwide, why arent we in for the top prospects?

I've got rather used to the idea of bringing in Papadopolous, I hope that goes through. Suarez biting up front and Papa scaring the crapola out of them at the back seems well balanced.

I felt Reina was staying... Didn't Valdes admit he was staying one more year at Barca? I think Mignolet is a good keeper, but I'm surprised we haven't gone after Vorm... He has consistently impressed.

I'm praying this rumors of us interested in Popadopolous and Henrik M. are true... Those are the types of signings we really need.
