i dont see the logic of reducing the squad size and then filling it up again with mid table standard players.
i dont think hooper has enough weapons in his game to trouble premiership defences and i`m not convinced he`d be able to handle the pressure of leading the line at a huge club either, the liverpool shirt is one of the heaviest shirts in football.
personally i`d like to see sterling and suarez play either side of carroll, i dont think carroll would break any scoring records but i think suarez and sterling might do playing off him.
sterling looks to have more to his game than just being the type of winger who hugs the sidelines, despite being a winger he has got a strikers instinct and he likes to play on the last shoulder of defenders. with his acceleration i think he`d cause defences real problems latching on to carrolls knock downs and flick ons.
the great thing about carroll is that centre halves end up getting bogged down in arm wrestling contests with him, that not only means that he`s the one taking the kicks and bruises it also means that other players have got to track back or come across from fullback to pick up suarez and sterling, if they switch off for a second suarez or sterling are through on goal.
we briefly saw a front 3 of carroll, suarez and sterling in the last home game of last season when we destroyed chelsea at anfield and it looked really impressive, infact sterling nearly scored off a carroll flick on, and because all 3 players are so different it asks a lot of questions of defences.
i think having carroll in the centre would make it easier to rotate our strikers too, i think borini needs a carroll type beside him to make the most of his goal poaching instincts and i`m sure the likes of yesil would be happy to see the big geordie next to him as well.
hopefully rodgers realised in sundays derby that it makes sense to be a bit more pragmatic at times.
What is your obsession with Carroll, do you not remember how rubbish he was for us last season, barring 1 or 2 games right at the end?
Carroll, never was, isn't, and never will be a good striker for us. I do however hope he manages to score at least one goal for West Ham otherwise it will be much harder selling him in the summer.
whether he does or doesnt come back here i for one would be more comfortable if he was still here giving our current situation of only having one senior striker in the ranks.
the decision to release him was a bit rash imo and there is so many still here who contribute nothing, he was just beginning to show form and confidence when the club decided to uproot him once again.
west ham have to buy andy if they stay up as that was the deal they signed to get him on loan so he will be leaving.
even if he isnt scoring goals he does put himself about and gives 100% and atm we would be a much better side if he was here.
i wouldnt think any defender in the league relishs the chance of marking him such is the threat he brings.
