I would have liked to keep Meireles but obviously his head was turned by AVB, he handed in a transfer request, so Adios; Aquaman, didn't want to be here, pity it's just a loan deal (for now); gutted we're paying 67% of Cole's wages; dunno what (if anything) we got for Degen, Insua, El Zhar, Poulsen etc.....so while it's money saved on wages, it would've been nice to have some cash recouped for other transfers...
Overall a mixed bag...

Unfortunately the reality was we had so much deadwood in the squad that getting significant transfer fees was always a bit of a long shot.  Looking at the list of sales and loans gives a startling indication of just how far we slipped in the last couple of years.  The feckin' cowboys have a lot to answer for but the dross in our squad takes the cake.  Feckin' criminal for a club of our pedigree.

Clearing out the deadwood surely raises the overall squad morale too. I don't suppose it's too nice training with dead-men-walking.

Actually this was a great transfer window. EXTREMELY disappointed we sold Meireles to Chelsea and a bit disappointed we didn't give Aquilani a chance and that we didn't sell him but loaned him with a chance to sell him for half the price a quality player like him is worth. But despite all that, I think I'm not old enough to remember a better transfer window. We have a strong midfield which if it keeps the form from the last match it might be hard to find a room even for Gerrard. We also have a very solid left side with the signings of Downing and the bargain 6 mill signing of Jose Enrique, one of the best LBs in the prem. at the moment. Got rid of all the deadwood, which I didn't expect we'd do at this transfer window. But the most important thing of all was that our owners actually spent alot of money, proving that they are serious about winning titles and putting this team back on the top where it actually belongs.

Thing is, they will want results after spending bucket loads of money, and rightly so.....

Am I the only one who doesn't care that we sold Meireles, he was a good player but we have plenty of cover in midfield and he was far to hit and miss for my liking and we recouped our investment.

i think it's been a brilliant transfer window.

I don't care that we sold him. Was an average player in the big scheme of things. The fact he moved to Chelski shows that he's a bell-end anyway.

The owners are great. Love 'em. And they seem to have really adapted to football which was new to them when they took over. Not only that but they also seem to really care about the team. Sure they want results, they wanna make some money, but they seem to understand that to do that they have to get the team and the fans all onside and to create unity. I've loved Liverpool for as long as I can remember and of course I want them to win every game, for myself, and for all of us fans. But now I have an extra desire to win because I wanna see the smile on the owners faces...and I wanna see Henrys birds boobies.

Can't wait to get the international break over and back into it! :buttrock

Thing is if it's true we are paying 60% of Coles wages then I really don't see what we are gaining in sending him there, for saving what 20k a week?

I reckon there is something in this deal.  :eyebrow
