Hope it goes thru soon.  He seems like quite a player that could make a quick impact.

Let's see here, Enrique, Adam and now Coates

all correct...I'm truly the transfer guru :nod

ok, I just need to work on the timings :D

Seems like Coates is pretty much a Liverpool player?

Pretty sure you claimed Adam had signed about 2 or 3 weeks in advance to it being announced?  :D

So unless he was secretly a Liverpool player...

I will give you the Enrique one tho.  Seems like you've got the Coates one as well.. I sure hope  you do at least!

Unless Man City come in to F*CK it up!!!  The days of them buying players to keep others from having them have to be over, their squad is humongous!!  Financial Fair Play can't get here soon enough!

Apparently the lad said he wants to come here over City and Suarez had a lot to do with that.

Surely if city offer wages like 140k a week and we only offer him 70k a week he will be tempted to go to city?

Btw the financial fair play is :censored: with lots of loop holes ... City circumvented it with their stadium naming rights deal worth 400 million.

I don't think Bastituta should be included in that group... He stuck with Fiorentina for years despite the fact he is too good for them... I think he even played in serie b with them...

We signed Coates, we sign Maxi Perriera in January, we have 3 really good Uruguayans.  None of them will ever leave us!

Just hearing Liverpool could be in the Champions League as a result of Fenerbahce being expelled. #lfc via @joncarterESPN

When a team is expelled UEFA may give the place to the team with the highest co-efficient not currently in Europe.

Ok, for now the rule is that there can't be more than 5 teams from the same country playing in the CL, so if Arsenal lose today there IS a chance for Liverpool to take their place in the CL as we currently have the highest co-efficient for a team not in Europe

That would be hilarious.. Why wouldn't Spurs get it and we get Spurs Europa spot?

Not entirely sure I want is in the CL this year if I'm honest... No matter how far we go it will be a distraction.  I suppose we have the depth in certain areas now to help, but we need to make sure we get into CL next year.

I highly doubt it too, but its nice to get excited :D

Spurs already qualified to the EL, so the CL spot goes to the team with the most ranked coefficient who did not qualify to a Europe competition , meaning us, but it all depends on the Arsenal game, there are other rumors that we might end up in the EL.

there is a 10% chance anyways, but one can hope

Greavesie wrote:Little more from BBC Sport:

Uruguay defender Sebastian Coates appears set to move to Liverpool after his club told BBC Sport they will make a decision this week.

The £12m-rated Nacional centre-back, 20, impressed in Uruguay's Copa America triumph in July and is keen to join compatriot Luis Suarez at Anfield.

"An offer arrived from Liverpool," said Nacional chief Daniel Enriquez.

"We will discuss the final details of the transfer and an announcement will be made soon."

He added: "It's an interesting offer and the player is interested in playing in English football and Liverpool seem like a proper club."

Coates would be Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish's sixth signing of the summer.

Dalglish is keen to strengthen his defensive resources after Greek defender Sotirios Kyrgiakos left for Wolfsburg on a free transfer and 6ft 6in Coates, 20, is seen not only as another quality addition but also a sound investment for the future.

Manchester City have been strongly linked with Coates but Liverpool are now firm favourites to add him to Dalglish's other summer signings, midfielders Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam and Stewart Downing, goalkeeper Doni and defender Jose Enrique.

Adding another centre-back became Dalglish's top priority after completing their deal with Newcastle United left-back Enrique.

soccernet is reporting too... but they said our bid is 8 million pounds... which is not bad... I just hope City doesn't hi-jack the transfer...

some good quotes below:

*************************************

But Nacional vice president Olmes has confirmed the Liverpool bid - thought to be around £8 million - has them in pole position to sign Coates and the player's father and agent, Peter, is reportedly heading to Merseyside to discuss personal terms with the Reds.

"The offer is very good. Surely Coates will go to Liverpool," Olmes replied when asked about Liverpool's interest.

And Coates himself has talked up the prospect of linking up with international team-mate Luis Suarez at Anfield.

"It's a club with great history and tradition in England," he told Ovacion. "Also, Luis [Suarez] would be a great help to me there. The offer suits all concerned, so it's fair to say it's a done deal."

Asked if he would prefer Liverpool to City, he said: "Yes. I would have to wait to see what City offer, but I think the presence of Luis would be very important in my decision. I have spoken to him - he contacted me and we chatted for quite a while.

"He's someone I know well. He's doing really well there and that's good for me because I'm joining a club with a Uruguayan presence."

On adapting to life in England, he said: "I don't care about the weather. When I get there, I'll get used to that and anything else as well. I'm more or less getting to grips with the English language, but I'll have to get Luis to give me a hand.

"There were many a lot of rumours that English clubs wanted me, but nothing concrete. Fortunately, I have now received an offer."
**********************************

Hopefully after this we'll get another striker... who's on the market now?

Nice quotes. The guy seems pretty determined and willing to adapt. It's refreshing to not have to read a bunch of "I've supported LFC since I was 5" sh*t too. No pretences.

Totally upbeat about this!
