Downing's a good player, but injury prone so I hope if we do get him we don't pay more than 10/11mil.

Anyway watching that final tonight, and just thinking that was us only a few years ago. We need to get back into the CL sharpish.

Dont rate Downing at all, ok hes better than a few we have but if you are going to push on you have to aim higher than him really. If we dont buy players that can at lesat potentially match those in the sides above us then we will go nowhere, and Downing wouldnt get a look in at any club in that top 4. As for Ozil, I rate him alright, great vision, well the lads eyes are big enough  :D  seriously though, a good player but you just dont know what to beleive, will take something to leave a job like Real Madrid you would think.

Nevermind the fact that we also have 2 strikers who will most likely start every game when fit..

ok ok but this one is gaining ground fo real though...

Liverpool in for Defour as Lille refuses to part with Eden Hazard

Liverpool FC's Director of Football Damien Comolli has reportedly travelled to Liege to hold talks with Standard Liege  for a possible player plus cash swap to attain the services of midfield star Steven Defour. Liverpool is reportedly ready to bid 12 million cash plus midfielder Jonjo Shelvey.

What do you guys think? It seems like a shame we're including a promising youngster like Shelvey in the deal... but Defour is a more accomplished midfielder than Shelvey...

I don't really buy the Shelvey bit.  He's showed promise and we've just bought him.  He's one Kenny tries to play as much as he can, so I just don't believe we'd be willing to offer him up, unless it was on loan.

Shelvey was bought during the previous regime though mate... I believe when even Rafa was here the deal was made...

Shelvey is going nowhere, he's being groomed to take over from SG.

Surely it would make more sense to offer cash plus Jovanovic ?

I doubt that Shelvey would want to go and play in Belgium but Jovanovic may be more than happy to return to his old club (provided they agree to take him    :D )

Agreed - Jova is the most likely makeweight in such a deal...

Don't really want to lose Jonjo, I think he has a bright future ahead of him. I thought Defour was nailed on to move to the mancs.
