Scott Dann transfer bid 'expected from Liverpool' as Arsenal and Spurs dally

Liverpool are believed to be putting together a transfer bid for Birmingham City defender Scott Dann, with Arsenal and Spurs also interested.

The Anfield side are in the market for a centre-half to assist Martin Skrtel and Jamie Carragher, as well as the injury-plagued Daniel Agger.

Lifelong Liverpool fan Dann is believed to fit the bill for Reds manager Kenny Dalglish, and Birmingham are almost certain to cash in on one of their most saleable assets following their relegation.

Premier League rivals Arsenal and Tottenham are also believed to be interested in the player, but Liverpool are looking to get a bid in early to steal a march on the north London sides.

All three clubs have also been linked with Bolton Wanderers centre-back Gary Cahill.

But with Cahill valued at £18m and Dann at £10m, Dann is the preferred option for the Reds.
The 24-year-old former England under-21 international formed a formidable partnership with Roger Johnson at the heart of Blues' defence in the first half of the season.

His season-ending hamstring injury was cited as one of the major factors in Birmingham's decline in the new year, which despite victory in the Carling Cup final, culminated in their slide towards the championship.

Liverpool Transfer Rumours: Reds Target Celtic Defender Emilio Izaguirre

Liverpool come into the transfer window this summer as a team looking to improve. The Reds rallied to a sixth-place finish in the Premiership last season, and with additions to their defense and midfield, they figure to be a contender for the Champions League next season.

One name that has been drawing plenty of interest from Anfield is Glasgow Celtic star Emilio Izaguirre. The supremely talented 25-year-old left back has emerged as one of the best players in the Scottish Premier League, and won SPL Player of the Year Honors, Players' Player Of the Year honors, and the Football Writers Footballer of the Year honors, to boot.

As of right now, most of the interest in Izaguirre has been speculative, but Liverpool has been seen as the leader of the pack to land the burgeoning star.

Izaguirre told reporters in his native Honduras that he was flattered by the attention paid to him by Liverpool.

He told La Tribuna: "It is flattering for any player of course, when somebody like Liverpool shows an interest in your services.

"I still do now know anything, I leave this in the hands of my agent and club officials."

Izaguirre isn't the only player being looked into in the back by Liverpool; Newcastle's Jose Enrique is also on the radar, although the word coming out of St. James Park is that the talented left back isn't for sale. While Celtic are obviously not actively looking to trade Izaguirre, they're certainly open to the prospect of dealing him, assuming the price is right.

In the end, it wouldn't surprise me if Dalglish and Liverpool managed to nab the Honduran star from the Scottish side, but at the same time, there have been no reports of an offer, and Celtic aren't actively looking to trade him. This is certainly a story to monitor, particularly if Newcastle continue to reject Liverpool's bids for Enrique, but as of now, there's nothing here but speculation and hope for the Kop faithful.

Downing is a decent player and it seems like he will be quite a likely target but I'd like to think our ambition is ab bit higher than going in for a talented player who has never really attracted the attention of the big boys. Am really hoping the club will go out and spend big on a young star like Hazard and look to bring in players like Downing to supplement the bigger signings.

Birmingham went down didnt they? Why the bh would we want one of their defenders then?!

First half of the season they were comfortably mid table with him in the side.
Also over last couple of seasons him and Johnson have been solid and both look good players.
Either of them for me are comfortably better than skrtel.

Who is this James McCarthy, and why does Kenny admire him so much? What can he do that other youngesters (at LFC) cant already do? Possibly that £10m could be used to fund for a euro/world class player, instead of buying another british player we already have a string of, in development at the LFC academy.

James Mccarthy plays for Wigan mate, a very good player but I don't see us buying him when we are in for Charlie Adam.

I would rather have Mccarthy over Adam though.

if we get him for 18mil then its a good deal but not see Valencia letting him go for under 20mil.
lets face it we was about to pay 16mil for him in 2009 so his price must have gone up and if not we should ask why it has not and is he worth anything then.

yes but we were told the same in 2009 and they still said no and we would not pay the 20mil asking price, if things were that bad then they would have taken our offer of 16mil then.

The Reds have enjoyed a flourishing end to a campaign that started so dismally, and permanent manager-in-waiting Dalglish has already drawn up a transfer hit-list with director of football Damien Comolli.

One of the priority names on the list for this summer is left winger Mata, according to Spanish reporter Guillem Balague.

The 23-year-old has enjoyed an impressive season at the Mestalla, and has helped guide Valencia to third in the table with seven goals in 27 appearances.

And with the Spanish club crippled by around £350m-worth of debt, a bid in the region of £20million for Mata may be too much for them to resist.

Aston Villa’s Ashley Young is also a reported target for the Reds, as Dalglish looks to fill the left-wing void in his side.

But he’ll face stiff competition for the England international, as Manchester United are also known to be keen
